Thrilling Post Launch Content for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Looking Possible!
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has seen insane success since it released on 24th April 2025, and it’s not hard to see why. The game hits you with stunning visuals, a wonderfully innovative turn-based battle system that utilises QTEs (Quick Time Events) to get the blood pumping, and a gorgeously tragic narrative that will leave players feeling deliciously melancholy.
Is it any wonder that fans are already clamouring for some Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 DLC? Thankfully, lead writer Jennifer Svedberg-Yen has responded to an inquiry on Instagram to say that the prospect of something more for this breathtaking first installment from Sandfall and Kepler Interactive is looking good.
Time to Get Excited
Despite the game’s endings being very satisfying from a thematic and narrative point of view, the world of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 still has a lot to offer, and fans are practically wetting themselves with excitement over the prospects. As one particular Instagram user noted, it would be nice to see some content centered around some of the previous expeditions before the 33rd, and it is to this post that lead writer Jennifer Svedbrg-Yen responded with:
We’ve always said if there is strong desire from the players that we would love to do something more, and based on the responses so far, I’d say chances are good.
Jennifer does confirm that there is nothing concrete in the works for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 as of yet, as the studio is still coming to terms with just how successful this game has become, even after only one week of being released. The game has already sold 1 million units, has scored a whopping 92/100 on Metacritic, and the constant influx of positive comments from both fans and new players is both glorious and perhaps a little daunting.
Our Whole World Carries The Burden
There is a lot of speculation on what DLC would look like for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Interest circles the above-mentioned previous expeditions as well as expanding on the beautifully fragmented world that you get to explore in the base game as the story progresses. Despite Clair Obscur: Expedition 33’s endings being fairly conclusive, it might be nice to see more in the way of Alicia’s family’s abilities. This story explores the fate of and the meaning behind the creation of Lumiere, but as Verso says to Maelle at the end of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33: ‘you have this incredible ability to paint.’
What would you like to see in the DLC? A deeper dive into those failed expeditions? Perhaps a look at that first fateful mission that included Verso before he discovered immortality? Or a teaser of a brand new Canvas to explore?
A Contender for Game of The Year?
GameCross over on YouTube mentions that this game might be a solid contender for Game of the Year. While Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 hasn’t matched the likes of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth with its sales numbers of over 2 million, for a new studio with a debut game, the numbers for Clair Obscur are truly staggering.
GameCross goes on to say that winning Game of the Year would surely elevate Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, generating more interest and spurring the developers to create DLC that could potentially be released with the base game in a Game of the Year edition. The prospect is incredibly exciting.
From Excellence to Excellence
With all this well-deserved hype, it’s hard to consider that there might not be a future expansion for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 in the works, and with the way lead writer Jennifer Svedberg-Yen writes, the hope of their new fans is looking strong. There is so much possibility still left to explore with this magnificent offering, the world to expand, the characters’ varied psychologies to further explore, and the hinted at history to further flesh out.
Let’s hope that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 can win that all-important status of Game of the Year to give the developers that motivating boost, if they even need it after such an overwhelmingly positive initial success, to take things with Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 to the next important level.
