He stated, “Yes, I want to do something. Currently, Dragon Quest has seen III, I, and II remakes. I get a lot of requests for the remake of Chrono Trigger as well, and so I’m starting to contemplate on it.”

Square Enix and Remakes

Square Enix has definitely been open to remaking their classic RPGs. Several entries in the Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy series have received remakes over the years. One of their most acclaimed remakes has been the Final Fantasy 7 Remake, which is currently in two chapters with a third game in development. Could Chrono Trigger receive a similar epic treatment?

Should Chrono Trigger be Remade?

Chrono Trigger is generally considered one of the best games on the SNES – and all time. The gorgeous 16-bit graphics and epic music have aged perfectly, as has the story and exploration. Anyone can pick it up now and still be engrossed in its adventure. As such, the question arises about whether or not we need a remake. The game has been ported to several systems over the years, meaning that it is easily accessible to gamers today.  Would a remake further develop the world and characters, or would it merely come with updated graphics?

Conclusion

Whether or not a remake ever happens remains to be seen, but no matter what happens, gamers will always have the original Chrono Trigger.  Gamers of any age can revisit the game’s many time periods and enjoy the company of Lucca, Marle, and the other wonderful characters. Sometimes a game doesn’t need a remake to stay relevant. There are even rare times when a game is perfect to begin with.
