Ruby in Animal Crossing
Ruby is an albino rabbit villager first introduced in Animal Crossing: Wild World for the Nintendo DS. She has the peppy personality, the most common for her species, with eight other rabbits having this personality. Peppy villagers are happy-go-lucky and ditzy, often overreacting to trivial matters but easily befriended. Despite her personality, Ruby’s countenance remains mostly neutral and rarely changes facial expressions. The most prominent features of her design are her white fur and bright red eyes, from which her English name derives. Ruby is a Christmas baby; her birthday is December 25, making her a Capricorn.
Ruby’s house features a space theme with furniture like a Moon and astronaut suits. This theme references the moon rabbit legend pronounced in Japanese culture. In the legend, a moon god travels to Earth disguised as a beggar who pleads with a group of animals to provide him with some food. The only animal to help the disguised moon god is a rabbit, who sacrifices itself in a fire to feed the man. The bunny’s oblation is rewarded as the god takes it back to the moon to live amongst the other deities; the outline visible on the moon’s dark side is said to be the same rabbit, pounding mochi for eternity. Ruby’s Japanese name, Luna, further supports this connection.
How to Get Ruby
Finding the lunar rabbit could have you pulling out your hair. One method to obtain her is the campsite, which randomly chooses a villager to visit on occasion. Campers will play games with you and eventually ask you to join your community. Due to the game’s large roster, the odds of this being Ruby will be paltry. Another way to acquire her is via an Amiibo card at the Nookstop terminal in Resident Services. This will allow you to directly invite her to the campsite. One thing to note is that while random campers can be obtained the same day they visit, the Amiibo method requires several days as villagers invited this way will not instantly move to your island.
Mystery Island Tours offers an alternative avenue from the previous approaches. These tours can be initiated at the airport using Nook Miles Tickets. As with the campsite, the odds of finding Ruby will be low as villagers found on tours are also randomized. You could easily deplete your stock of tickets before ever finding her. By far the easiest way to acquire her is through another player, thanks to New Horizons’s online abilities. Villagers occasionally express the desire to move out and head off to live in new communities. When the moving villager is packed in boxes, another player can visit them and request they migrate to their island.

Ruby is an interesting character who bears a load of cultural subtext often lost in Western countries. While she may initially seem a bit hare-brained, peppy villagers are easy to befriend and have more depth than you might think. If you think it’s rabbit season and are ready to hunt for her, you may have to put in some effort. Ruby is a fairly desired character, usually ranking somewhere in the top 100 villagers in popularity polls.
