Secret Lair An Exhibition of Adventure DnD Cards Revealed

DND Dragon of Stromwreck Isle set

The Secret Lair An Exhibition of Adventure cards were spoiled recently and the Secret Lair contains some pretty exciting reprints. An Exhibition of Adventure is one of five Dungeons and Dragons Secret Lairs that Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast are releasing to celebrate the 50th anniversary of DnD. Similar to other Secret Lair super drops like the Inside an Elevator super drop; the DnD Secret Lairs will all be released on the same day which is Tuesday, August 27th. In an exclusive with IGN, The Secret Lair An Exhibition of Adventure cards were spoiled and were shown to contain seven different reprints with each of them featuring past Dungeons and Dragons art. One of the cards being reprinted which is Goldspan Dragon has cover art from the 1983 Dungeons and Dragons Set One: Basic Rules “Red Box”. The blue one-cost card Ponder uses the cover art from Dungeon Master’s Guide, Fourth Edition. People who have played DnD third edition and DnD three point five can tell you that the fourth edition of DnD was pretty controversial.

Even with it being one of the least popular editions of DnD, it still had gorgeous cover art and that art being part of an MTG card is pretty cool. Acererak the Archlich who was on the cover of the DMG for the fifth edition will also be in the Secret Lair. Acererak had been printed previously in the 2021 Adventures in the Forgotten Realms set and it makes sense he’s making a reappearance for the Secret Lair.

The seven cards in the Secret Lair are Faithless Looting, Fell the Mighty, Goldspan Dragon, Reality Shift, Monster Manual, Ponder, and finally Acererak the Archlich. The bonus card for the set has yet to be revealed but it’ll more than likely be a Command Tower similar to many other Secret Lairs. Moneywise the most valuable card out of these is Goldspan Dragon which is going for a little over eight dollars on right now. If you’re looking to get this Secret Lair it’s best to get it because you’re a fan of DnD and not because you want to invest in cardboard.

DnD 50th Anniversary

2024 marks the 50th anniversary of Dungeons and Dragons and Wizards of the Coast has been going out all in celebration of it. Besides the super drops, there will also be new editions of the Players Handbook, Dungeon Master’s Guide, and Monster Manual. The revised PHB will see updates to classes and races across the board and will be launching this September with the DMG launching in November. The updated Monster Manual however won’t be available till February 2025 which could make for a good Valentine’s Day gift.

The United States Postal Service also started selling Dungeons and Dragons 50th anniversary stamps which could be a good buy for collectors and/or Dungeons and Dragons fans. Wizards of the Coast has also been releasing other products to celebrate DnD’s 50th anniversary such as book covers, new Icon of the Realms boosters, a 50th-anniversary dice tower, and even larger figures.

Secret Lair History

Wizards of the Coast started their Secret Lair drops back in December of 2019 which contained seven different Secret Lairs. Their most popular product from that super drop was the OMG Kitties Secret Lair which can be bought via the secondary market for well over 100 dollars. The Walking Dead SL they released back in October of 2020 caused some controversy due to the cards all being mechanically unique and not being able to be bought anywhere else. Eventually, the cards were reprinted but were done so that they kept the same mechanics but had different art and flavor text.

The Walking Dead wasn’t the only TV or even movie-themed Secret Lair as Wizards of the Coast has also released ones for the Dungeons and Dragons movie, Monty Python, Stranger Things, and Doctor Who. They’ve also released a Secret Lair for the Fallout video game series, the Vocaloid Hatsune Miku, and are planning on releasing a Final Fantasy and even a Marvel Secret Lair too. They made some people angry by stopping their pre-order and pay a later model the lairs originally had and went with more of a fear of missing out on the model. It’s clear Secret Lairs are here to stay for better or worse.
