Sentinels Seemingly Flawless Valorant Season Falls Through

With the 2024 Valorant Champions Tournament coming to an end, Sentinels finished in fourth place, losing to Team Heretics in the lower quarter-finals. The team will secure $130,000 and some extra praise from their fans after continuing to show rapid improvement. Here’s how their season concluded, including a disappointing end to what had been a great run in 2024.

The Downfall

It all began in July of 2023. Sentinels were eliminated by Leviatan in the Lower Bracket Semifinals of the Last Chance Qualifier. This comes after an embarrassing two-year run of very poor competitive performance.  Ultimately, they decided changes needed to be made, releasing key player and In-game Leader “Marved” in December of 2023, followed by the benching of star duelist “pANcada” in February of 2024. This was a rather substantial change to make but one they felt was necessary.

Sentinels Switch Up

With new roster spots to fill, Sentinels chose to go for a new look and new roles for the players, signing “johnqt” as the new In-game Leader and “Zellsis” as the new majority Sentinel. This new and tweaked roster debuted their first VCT Tournament at the 2024 Kickoff with their new and improved In-game Leader “johnqt” leading the team to the Grand Finals win versus their American rival, LOUD, securing a spot at Masters 2024.

Road to Success

After finding success in Kickoff 2024, Sentinels preserved the same roster and roles into the Masters 2024, with their first match being against, yet again, LOUD. In-game Leader “johnqt” shined over the roster carrying the team to a 2-1 match win. Sentinels went on to lose to the Korean-based Gen.G. After being sent to the lower finals, they ran away with a win versus Asia-Pacific’s number one team, Paper Rex. This win led them to the Grand Finals, with Sentinels looking for revenge against Gen.G. This suspenseful match came down to a game five on Icebox, where Sentinels pulled off an underdog win. It was one of their most impressive showings of the year.

Disappointing Final Performance

Despite proving their dominance in the early stages of the 2024 VCT Season, Sentinels still fell short at Champions 2024, finishing in fourth place of eight. Fans of Sentinels should still be thrilled following this season despite their defeats at Champions 2024. This should be a showcase of what the team is capable of and reignite hope of what the seasons ahead should bring. The future looks bright for this Esports team, and fans will anxiously await their next performance.
