When I first saw the trailer for this game, Hellblade 2, I felt scared. Maybe it’s my claustrophobia, but seeing Senua in a tunnel made me fearfully want to know more about this saga. I confess I never played the first one, I didn’t have it on my radar as one of my games to buy but now I’m looking forward to its release at the end of May.
This third-person action-adventure video game preserves the concepts and elements of its predecessor. It has permanent death, the use of riddles and runes to advance, and an examination of Senua’s mental state. It was developed by Ninja Theory, an English studio acquired by Microsoft in 2018 under the direction at Xbox of Phil Spencer, someone who was thrilled by the potential of this studio mainly based on third-person adventure and horror games.
And so it is that in 2017, they launched Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice to total success with several awards for these consoles: Microsoft Windows, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 4. Now, it is an award-winning franchise that returns in 2024.
About Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2
This brutal journey of survival is the sequel to the award-winning game Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice. Senua will face a struggle to defeat the darkness through the myth and torment of Viking Iceland. As a player, you must save the victims from the horrors of tyranny. Experience the next chapter of Senua’s story in this immersive cinematic storytelling experience with beautiful visuals and immersive sound.
It’s a video game for adults, as ESRB themselves classify it as M for Mature: “This game may include content not suitable for all ages or for viewing at work: General Adult Content.” This version returns to a brutal journey about just surviving. You should save the victims who have fallen in your playthrough.
What’s New In This Version of Hellblade 2?
Combat designer Juan Fernandez indicated that a new fighting system, more dynamic and realistic than the previous one, will be included in the game. Along with Senua’s background and connections, he explained that Ninja Theory is raising the bar concerning Hellblade II’s combat.
Fernandez noted that “less than 20 people worked on developing the previous game and Ninja Theory has increased its production efforts for the next one. As a result, there will be more complex combat and a wider variety of opponents in Hellblade II. The game will also delve deeper into the Norse mythology and history that inspired the narrative.”
The development studio’s philosophy is simple: Create stunning gameplay experiences from a small, passionate group of creatives with cutting-edge technology. And with this mix, they have been able to create award-winning and renowned titles such as Devil May Cry and Bleeding Edge. Will Hellblade 2 be another?
