Animal Crossing: New Horizons – 5 Awesome Building Ideas for Your Island
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is getting a giant update on January 15th, meaning it’s time to clear your island of weeds and stomp on the cockroaches in your house. If you’re feeling ambitious, you might want to do some redecorating as well. Maybe you’d like some themed areas in your island or house. Here are five ideas that are sure to spice up your home or island.
5 Building Ideas for Animal Crossing: New Horizons

1. A Carnival
You can use Nook Miles to purchase various carnival rides and attractions, so why don’t you build an amusement park? You can pave over an area of your island, build some fencing around it, and place some rides and games. Some other items like the gumball machine and the vending machines might also fit into your park. The cheery carnival music should bring you a smile. If you can’t visit the carnival in real life, do it in Animal Crossing.
2. An Arcade
Three different arcade machines, a pinball machine, and a claw machine all show up at Nook’s Cranny. In addition, if you order more pinball machines and claw machines, you can customize each of them at Harv’s Island, meaning you’ll have a slew of different pinballs and claws. Your home arcade can utilize exciting club-themed wallpaper and flooring, and you can dim the lights to make the game screens pop. If you have room, you can also add a pool table or a ping pong table to make your Animal Crossing arcade shine.
3. A Mario-Themed Area
The upcoming update will feature The Legend of Zelda-themed items (with compatible amiibos), but you can use your Nook Miles to buy Mario items now. Decorate a room or area of your island with bricks, shells, super stars, and more. In addition, the warp pipes are functional, so purchase several pipes, place them all over your island, and you can warp around your island with ease. Visitors to your Animal Crossing island should appreciate that.
4. A Diner
Purchase some restaurant chairs and tables, a salad bar, a drink machine, an ice cream freezer, and a neon diner sign, and you can build a diner in your house. Add a jukebox and have it place some soothing music. Decorate your walls with posters to provide a cheery atmosphere. It just might make you hungry, and visitors should admire your decor.
5. A Playground
Indulge your inner child by building a playground on your island. Add a jungle gym, an elephant slide, a sandbox, and a basketball court. Plant some flowers for decoration, but make sure you keep them enclosed so they don’t take over your playground. You can even place some bubble machines to make bubbles fly all over the playground.
It’s Time to Use Your Imagination!
The new update to Animal Crossing: New Horizons will include plenty of new items to play around with – and if you run out of room, you can use the new dream islands to create to your heart’s content. Maybe you’ll have a dream island where it’s always Christmas, or you’ll use the new Lego-themed items to make a Lego area. The limits are your imagination.
