Wishblossom Ranch: Is it a Win for Disney Dreamlight Valley?

Wishblossom Ranch, the latest expansion for Disney Dreamlight Valley, brings to life the dream of so many children: to have your very own horse. Oh, did I say horse? No, you get a stable of horses. And, in case that isn’t enough for you to want to add this expansion to your game (or pick up the game for the first time), then keep reading. Because there’s more.

When you first arrive at Wishblossom Ranch, you’re greeted by Snow White, who is quite upset because her horse friends are missing. And you take on the mission of finding them and restoring the ranch to its former glory. You see, it’s a wreck thanks to the shenanigans of Cruella de Ville. And, one of the very first things that happens is finding and customizing your own first steed.

Yes, you do get to customize a horse pretty much right away! And that was something I was particularly looking forward to. The only problem… the customization is somewhat lacking. I was really hoping for some free rein (see what I did there?) to create a horse design, but it’s pretty limited. You can choose from a very limited selection of colors and patterns. One thing I found annoying was that the color for the body pattern (like the socks, for example) and the color for the face markings are connected. So, if you’re trying to make a bay with a white face marking, forget about it. At least the way it stands now.

Still, having said all of that, riding the horse around, galloping, and jumping fences is so much fun! I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of riding horses around in games. So, more of that please. And, I can even overlook the limited customization because riding is just that joyful.

New Characters: Snow White, Tinkerbell, & More

I’ve only played through a small part of the expansion so far. But I have met both Snow White and Tinkerbell in a short amount of time. Snow White’s dialogue and animations are enchanting! Of course, I tease her voice and mannerisms, but she’s exactly how she should be. When she claps her hands, I can’t help but smile.

Tinkerbell is super tiny! Oh my gosh. She’s the most adorable thing in the game so far, and that’s saying something. The pixie flies around, and she’s just as magical as you could ask for.

Cruella de Ville and Tigger are also added in this expansion. Though I haven’t met either character yet, I can’t wait to do so, and I’ll update you when I have.

Wishblossom Ranch and the Village

The ranch itself is in a shambles, so fixing it up seems like it will take some time. Also, there’s a village nearby where Mickey, Goofy, Scrooge, and Remy move in to get things going. There are new blueprint structures. These are things you have to build first to add to your catalogue of items. First up, a water tower. You have to gather items to repair it, which becomes a quest. I like this new mechanic. It’s serving as a reason to gather up all of the new materials and a fun building quest.

You’ll have to place a house for Snow White (and pay Scrooge to build it, of course), help Remy open a restaurant, and help Scrooge open a store, and that’s just the start.

It’s a lot to do, but as a beginning, it’s quite satisfying. There are the usually flowers, herbs, fruit bushes, mines, and more to gather. And, I’m sure a whole selection of new farm plants is just around the corner as well.

My Verdict So Far

Disney Dreamlight Valley: Wishblossom Ranch is a winner. Gameloft hit a home run when they put this together. From the beautiful mountain setting to the Alpine style of structures, and the addition of much-awaited characters (and horses), I’m looking forward to spending hours deep in this game.
