Even various media platforms wanted in on the action with their attempts to offer a definitive Sonic origin story. As of now, the most notable story about Sonic’s super-speed and origins arrived from Fleetway Comics.
Fleetway’s Sonic Origin Story Makes Sense
In this version, Sonic’s super-speed already existed as the blue hedgehog was always running around luscious green hills. As a Sonic fan, you should already know what Green Hills is being referenced. Furthermore, Sonics power sneakers weren’t the source of his powers. Instead, they protect Sonic so he can release the full extent of his power without harming himself.

Just in case you’re not a math genius, Sonic can run at the speed of light, which is scientifically impossible. No wonder, Dr. Eggman’s intellect can’t overcome Sonic’s super-speed — science doesn’t have the capabilities to defeat something that can break the laws it imposes..
On different media platforms, Sonic may be portrayed differently. So while the comics could calculate Sonic’s speed, the games would need a speedometer attached. Thankfully, the creators of Sonic Unleashed provided speed measurements on checkpoints during the day stages. Because of this feature, we now know that Sonic can easily reach a maximum of 999mph, making most fighter jets the perfect subject to test Sonic’s spin attacks next.
