Sony and Santa Monica Studio’s God of War Ragnarok which launched in November of 2022 will be hitting PCs next month on September 19th. After an eight-year hiatus, fans of the franchise were blessed with a sequel that saw Kratos go from Greece to Midgard. Not only did Kratos move to a new realm, but he also remarried and had a son named Atreus. God of War Ragnarok serves as the conclusion to Kratos’s Norse saga. Have 190 Gigs Of SSD Space Available
Sony has recently revealed on PlayStation Blog the PC specs for God of War Ragnarok and PC gamers are going to need 190 gigs of SSD space. God of War Ragnarok was never a small game on PS4 or PS5 requiring 107 and 84 gigs respectively but the 190 gig requirement completely dwarfs the storage that was needed on the console version. Another Sony game that was released for PC this year was Horizon Forbidden West which requires 150 gigs of SSD space; the same amount of space and hardware needed for Baldur’s Gate Three. Another game that required an SSD was Cyberpunk 2077 which needed 70 gigs of SSD space which is a pretty paltry amount compared to Ragnarok’s install requirement.
When Sony released God of War(2018)onto PC it only required 70 gigs of space and it also didn’t need a solid-state drive either. To be fair, not all 190 gigs is the base game of Ragnarok as it will also be released with the Valhalla DLC too. Even with that being the case though, video games are becoming more expensive in the file size department. Unless you have gigabit internet you may want to take a shower while installing God of War Ragnarok to help kill some time.
Graphics And Other Hardware
Besides needing a serious amount of space, Sony’s God of War Ragnarok will also require some decent graphics cards, especially for the game’s ultra settings. As long as you have a Nvidia 1060 or AMD equivalent, you’ll be able to run the game at 30 FPS. For everyone who has a 2060/AMD equivalent, you’ll be able to get 60 FPS out of the game. High settings will require an Nvidia 3070/AMD 6800 while Performance needs an RTX 3080 TI/AMD RX 6900 XT. To see the full beauty of Sony’s GoW Ragnarok, you’ll need an Nvidia 4070 TI/AMD RX 7900 XT for ultra.
Both the 4070 TI and 7900 XT will set you back about 600 dollars which isn’t too bad especially if you’ve been thinking of upgrading. The game needs 16 gigs of RAM unless you plan to play it on minimum settings at which point you’ll only need eight gigs. Luckily, the Nvidia or AMD processor needed to run the game on ultra settings will only set you back about 200 dollars. Having to shell out the money to upgrade/future-proof your rig can suck for sure. At the same time though, future-proofing for three-plus years means not having to worry about your PC being aged out from playing the newer games.
Game Awards 2018 and 2022
Sony and Santa Monica Studio’s God of War (2018) released to fantastic reviews and was one of the finalists in Game of the Year voting in 2018. It had to go up against some titans that year such as Insomniac’s Spider-Man and Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption Two. While many people thought for sure Red Dead Redemption Two was going to win GOTY, GoW(2018)won it instead. God of War Ragnarok unfortunately wasn’t able to take home the gold at the 2022 Video Game Awards instead losing out to Elden Ring that year. Even so, Santa Monica Studio made something special with the two GoW games. Sony’s God of War Ragnarok will be released on PC on September 19th and PC gamers who haven’t played it on PS consoles are in for a treat.
