Nintendo Switch 2: Sony Sends Out Survey To Users About Competitor’s New Console

Nintendo Switch 2 is already causing a stir in the industry

Over the past couple of months, Nintendo has held its Direct and Treehouse presentations. Showcasing the Switch 2 in regard to how it looks, the new features (including GameChat, new exclusive games to the console, and hardware specs), many fans have expressed both happiness and worries. As Sony may be looking into entering the handheld arena again, is this their way of seeking a competitive advantage?

Sony Hypothetical Scenario

From what we know so far, Sony has sent a new survey to PlayStation users seeking their thoughts about the Nintendo Switch 2 news. For players to preorder the Switch 2 directly from Nintendo, a Nintendo user must have subscribed to Nintendo Switch Online for 12 months consecutively and have a minimum of 50 hours played on their original Switch console(s).

Never in the history of video games have there been such stipulations in place for gamers to pre-order a new console.
With Sony being aware of this, it wouldn’t be farfetched for them to see if they sway new users to PlayStation and possibly their handheld console in the future.

When Nintendo released its original Switch 2 preorders, they also released the price for the Switch 2. For the console alone, the price is set at $450, and the bundle (including Mario Kart World) is set at $500. Is Sony looking to capitalize on this situation, or are they looking to learn about how users are looking at the current market problems to avoid disappointing their fan base?

Fans have anxiously waited for official news about the Switch 2, and we finally have some information about it. While the release date has been released, due to the current tariffs that the US government is putting on many countries, currently, there is a delay on preorders of the Switch 2. Originally, preorders were supposed to be available on April 9, however, that is not the case at the moment.

Sony News

Sony faced a similar situation in 2021 regarding the ability to keep PS5s stocked in stores such as Target, Walmart, GameStop, Amazon, and others. The gaming industry is being hurt due to situations that are out of its control. What does this mean for Sony and Nintendo fans? For those who were seeking to get their hands on their own Switch 2 on release day, that does not seem possible for US and Canadian gamers. While the launch date of June 5, 2025, has not changed, gamers may have to change their financial plans in regard to their gaming options.

What are your thoughts about Sony inquiring their users about the new, long-awaited Nintendo Switch 2? Are they trying to get new ideas for their handheld console to compete with Nintendo?
