What Are Special Zombies in Black Ops 6?

Special Zombies

Curious about what special zombies are in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6? It’s a good question. So many challenges, including to obtain calling cards and other rewards in the game, involve killing special zombies. Black Ops 6 has introduced a lot of different types of zombies, ranging from armored zombies to the dreaded Amalgam. Which ones qualify as “special?” Here’s your answer as well as what each one can do to you if you’re not careful. Treyarch certainly didn’t mess around when adding some of these dangerous enemies.

Special Zombies in Black Ops 6

The biggest thing to answer this question is to determine the difference between special zombies and elite zombies. The simplest way to put it is that elite zombies are much harder to kill. There was initially just one special: the Mangler. This zombie debuted in Black Ops 3. It has been featured in Black Ops Cold War, Modern Warfare III, and now again in BO6. It first appeared in Gorod Krovi, and it’s the only one you can farm to complete those pesky challenges. It spawns on Liberty Falls and Terminus, so target those maps if you’re looking to kill specials.

However, with the arrival of The Tomb, there’s now another option if you’re looking for special zombies: the Shock Mimic. The Mimic first appeared in Black Ops Cold War and has been in Warzone 2.0, Modern Warfare III, and again now in Black Ops 6 as a shock variant. It first debuted on the Firebase Z map. The Mimic is similar to the Amalgam but it does qualify as a special zombie.

How to Kill a Mangler

Manglers start spawning on Round 11, though they can spawn earlier on Liberty Falls and Citadelle Des Morts. Every couple of rounds, another one will spawn. The longer you play, the more Manglers can spawn. You can see up to 10 special zombies in your game if you play long enough, which can be a huge challenge even for the best zombies players out there (even a couple of them is a challenge for me). The trick with the Mangler is to target the gun on its arm. Destroying this makes it one-dimensional, and you can easily kill it from afar since it can’t attack you without getting close. Just continue spraying it in the head after that.

How to Kill a Shock Mimic

The Shock Mimic is exclusive to The Tomb. If you prefer fighting them to Manglers, play that map instead. One will spawn around Round 8. It drops a key piece of the Easter Egg to get the Ice Staff. It will grab you and pull you in like an Amalgam will, dealing a lot of damage before releasing you. You will also be shocked and disabled for a second after. It’s the same effect as being shocked by a shock charge in Multiplayer. Once again, keep your distance and spray it in the mouth and head to make quick work of it.

What are Elite Zombies in Black Ops 6?

The rest of those non-standard zombies are elite zombies. This includes the Amalgam and the Abomination. The Amalgam is present on The Tomb, Citadelle Des Morts, and Terminus, and it’s arguably the hardest elite zombie to kill. The Abomination spawns on Liberty Falls only. It spawns when you’re doing the Easter Egg and trying to defeat elite zombies within a trap to gather their essence for the Dark Aether Cannister. Once again, spray it in the head. You should keep your distance, but it also has a projectile attack that you’ll have to avoid. It begins spawning regularly on Round 16.

Conclusion

Say what you will about Black Ops 6 zombies, but they have put a lot of effort into providing some challenging minibosses. Some are returning favorites while others are brand-new. Regardless, they’re a new wrinkle in later rounds that even veteran players will have to lock in in order to defeat. Plus, there are some cool calling cards and other rewards available for defeating a certain amount of them which is always nice.
