Spectre Divide Uses Body-Swapping For Quirky PVP Strategy

Spectre Divide is a new PvP shooter being developed by Mountaintop Studios. This title is a first-person shooter that pits 2 teams of 3 in a variety of tactical game modes. In collaboration with esports icon, Michael “Shroud” Grzesiek, Specter Divide is adding a whole new twist to its mechanics. A new feature is being introduced called “Duality.” This will enable players to ‘body swap’ within members of their squad, effectively defending two different areas at once.

What Is Duality?

Duality is a new feature that lets players control two avatars at once with a push of a button. At the start of each match, players will take control of one character, while other squad members are called “Spectres.” Squadmates can be spawned by throwing a “Duality Device.” The body of the Spectre will be on standby and ready to be linked up. Hence, it will be possible to jump from one Spectre to the next, flanking opponents from all directions throughout the entirety of the match. The team at Mountaintop Studios has been crafting Spectre Divide since 2019 and has been fine-tuning the ‘Duality’ feature since its first day of conception.

The story of Spectre Divide takes place around the year 2100. It centers around the metropolis of Breakwater, which is separated into 9 distinct districts. They all have their own cultures, personalities, and history. Within Breakwater, lies a dirty little secret. Which is an underground televised sport called, ‘Sentai.’ This competition uses illegal military equipment, which allows the competitors to swap their minds from one body to the next. Sentai has very few rules, including having skirmishes sporadically throughout the city. Players will take control of a rookie, who will fight up the ranks for fortune and glory and win over the fevered fanbase.

Of course, there will also be kits that will be provided by different ‘sponsors’ to set up a player’s unique build. These kits will create different ‘classes’ that will enable players to; set traps, scout, heal, and defend a base. Players will team up together with ‘Crews.’ They will fight to the top together or die trying. Spectre Divide was made for community involvement and not to have a player go ‘lone wolf.’ A player’s crew will overtake a division in Breakwater and will be enticed to hold their territory. If not, then another crew will take it over and a player’s team will slip in their ranks.

Double Dip

The duality feature in Spectre Divide adds a whole new dynamic to a PvP competitive shooter. It is a refreshing take for an FPS tactical shooter. There will be a closed Beta on August 13th-21st. There is no official release date at this time. This game has been in production for 5 years, so the wait won’t be much longer. Spectre Divide is currently a PC exclusive, but it is possible that it could come to the PlayStation and Xbox in the foreseeable future.
