As all OG’s would remember, EA Sports produced the NCAA March Madness from 1998 to 2008 before creating the NCAA basketball game 09, followed by the NCAA basketball 10, a pretty impressive and pretty long-standing game, but afterwards they went on a hiatus and have not made a college basketball game since (much to the tears of fans).
They’ve made plenty of College Football games between 1994 and 2014 before taking an 11-year hiatus, and just recently returned with College Football 25, which plenty of fans were playing in 2024 and 2025.
New Name, New Game?
In his extra points newsletter, Matt Brown was able to find more information about the whole situation, and it said this.
“In a memo sent to the college conference offices from the College Licensing Company (CLC), dated June 26th, 2025, CLC put out a request for proposal (RFP) to create a college basketball video game in November 2024. according to the memo, five companies expressed formal interest, and three filed formal bids. the CLC memo recommends that the conferences accept the proposal made by EA Sports to bring back EA Sports College basketball. this proposal states a plan for EA Sports to release the first game in 2028. “
We also found out that it won’t be called NCAA basketball, which noo for the old name series but if they are wanting to go with a new look, all the power to them, the working title at this point according to Matt Brown’s Twitter is that it’ll be called EA Sports college basketball, original? Not very, but it gets the point across.
See You On The Court
Can we expect to see a great reception to this hopefully reinstated game? Well, considering College Football 25 was the second-best-selling video game in the US in 2024 and the best-selling Sports video game in history, so says Chris Pereira and Eddie Makuch from the ever-reliable GameSpot.
So it’s safe to say that, given the success of College Football after its insanely long pause in the gaming industry that basketball might be following in its steps after nearly two decades of being in the shadows.
