Guide To Using Skill Points And Upgrading in College Football 26

As with all activities, if you want to get good, you’re going to need the skills to make it happen. In College Football 26, you need to earn skill points to upgrade your player’s stats—as one should. The problem is that when you start the RTG journey in high school, access to those skill points is not an immediate thing. Here’s the first bit of knowledge you’ll need to keep your player on the road to professional greatness!

Where to Upgrade Stats

First, you’ve got to know where to look for the upgrades. To upgrade your player, go to the Road To Glory Menu and select Upgrade Player. Seems easy enough. Now, in this menu, you have a chance to use any skill points earned, and they will upgrade one of six ratings.

Keep in mind that these are your core ratings, and stats will depend on the position chosen when you started. Here’s a QB example for the core ratings and what expected stats they increase:

Accuracy

  • Deep Throw Accuracy
  • Throw on the Run
  • Short Throw Accuracy
  • Medium Throw Accuracy
  • Throw Under Pressure

Power

  • Throw Power
  • Jumping
  • Stiff Arm
  • Trucking
  • Strength

IQ

  • Awareness
  • Play Action
  • Carrying
  • Ball Carrier Vision
  • Elusiveness

Agility

  • Break Sack
  • Change of Direction
  • Juke Move
  • Break Tackle
  • Spin Move

Quickness

  • Speed
  • Acceleration
  • Stamina

Health

  • Injury
  • Stamina
  • Toughness

Now, each stat will require a set amount of those precious skill points and if you’ve been farming that stat for a minute, that amount will be higher. TLDR; Higher Stat/Higher Level = More skill points needed for next round.

Once an upgrade option is selected, press and HOLD A on Xbox or X on PlayStation and the deducted skill points will upgrade the selected stat.

When You Can Start Upgrading

Pay attention to which stats will do what as it can impact your game the most. If you’re training up your QB and favor rushing the field, then you can start on the road to being the fastest one in College Football 26 by improving the Quickness rating.

It’s important to note (and circle back to) the immediate access issue that the game has. Your player can’t be upgraded during the first five weeks (yes, you read that right) on the Road To Glory campaign when playing for the high school team. Yeah, you’ll need to graduate senior year and sign with a college before you can work on improving those stats.

How to Earn Skill Points

How do you get those skill points in College Football 26? Excellent question! True to real life, you need to put in the Energy during the training sessions that happen each week and complete objectives (aka milestones, anyone else getting HS flashbacks?) when playing in games.

Training can be done as many times as you want—okay not really, only as much as your Energy allows you each week.

If you’re unsure of what your energy icon looks like, just look for the silver coin with a lightning bolt on it in the upper right corner (you know, how an energy level typically looks—lightning). They wanted to still keep it true to real life: if you train too much, you’re getting benched with an injury and your Health stat will decrease.

Also, don’t raise our prized athlete into being all brawn and no brain. Spend some of your Energy on Academics and Leadership, as this is the best way to. Anyway, completing training sessions earns you XP that you can use towards your next level.

Next level = more skill points, so start strategizing what road you’re going down in College Football 26!
