Professional Valorant Player “ZmjjKK” has become the face of the game after winning the first-ever MVP Award at a Valorant event. Stapling his name into the history books while also breaking the kill record in any best-of-five VCT match, a record that stood for four months. This performance led the star duelists team, EDward Gaming (EDG), to win China’s first-ever VCT trophy. August 25th will go down as one of the most exciting days in VCT history and “ZmjjKK” will be the name to remember.
The Rise of ZmjjKK
Professional Valorant player “ZmjjKK” signed to EDward Gaming to form the original roster along with “CHICHOO” and In-game Leader, “nobody”. Although “ZmjjKK” won the first-ever Valorant MVP Award, the success was not there from the beginning. With Valorant being released three years later in China than in other regions, there was a game of catch-up to play, but “ZmjjKK” seemed to be ahead of the game already.
EDG always showed success against the VCT China league but never seemed to carry it over to international events. “ZmjjKK” would go on to finish his first VCT event in first place, with a +25 kill/death ratio, but when faced against international teams at Masters Madrid, it was a sixth place finish with only a +10 kill/death ratio.
The Commitment
Despite the setback and disappointing performance, EDG’s star duelist “ZmjjKK” would once again carry his team to a first-place victory at the VCT China Stage 1 with an impressive +148 kill/death ratio, securing a spot at Masters Shanghai. Yet again, a letdown performance from both the team and “ZmjjKK”, placing 7th with a -6 kill/death ratio, the first negative event of his career.
This ultimately sent EDG back to VCT CN for the second time after losing a VCT Masters event. EDG’s and “ZmjjKK” seem to be on repeat after yet again, putting on a show winning VCT CN 2 with “ZmjjKK” finishing with a +71 kill/death ratio, but this time instead of Masters, it was time for Champions 2024, another international event where people thought they knew what to expect of EDG and their star duelist.
The Payoff
With a history of disappointing international events, there were not very high expectations for EDG and where they would place, especially with their first match being against the number two ranked, G2, where EDG would lose a very close match to be sent to the lower bracket. A fire lit inside the team of Edward Gaming, knowing what they were capable of and not wanting to let down the fans once again.
EDG went on a lower bracket run to the grand finals, beating the number two ranked team from China, Trace Esports, the number three and number one ranked teams from America, Sentinels and Leviatan, which was the match to send them to the grand finals versus the number one ranked European team, Team Heretics. “ZmjjKK” would go on to break the VCT best of 5 kills record and carry the team to China’s first VCT trophy.
It was undeniable who the first MVP Award would be going to with such a groundbreaking performance and long-term commitment to the game. The fan favorite was announced MVP minutes after winning the grand finals of the biggest tournament of the year, Champions 2024 finishing with 111 kills through all five maps. “ZmjjKK” was awarded a custom MVP-themed bracelet made by Good Art but will always be remembered for his unforgettable performance and determination.
