Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is one of those games that are so good that playing them once is not enough. There are many different game genres out there, and developers are working hard to update the market with new Star Wars titles. There hasn’t been a shortage of rereleases and remakes, such as Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic and Star Wars Bounty Hunters. One Star Wars title that deserves a revisit is Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. It was both the fastest-selling Star Wars game and Lucas Arts’, winning a Writers Guild of America award for Best Video Game Writing award.
We Need Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Again
Game remakes have become an integral part of the gaming industry to the extent that Square-Enix’s Final Fantasy VII Rebirth was the single biggest gaming release of the first quarter of 2024. The sheer number of remakes, rehashes, remasters, and re-imaginings gives players a chance to relive or introduce classics to an untapped audience.
Recently, fans could enjoy the first open-world SW game, Star Wars Outlaws, with several upcoming titles to come: the untitled Respawn’s strategy game, Star Wars: Eclipse, Knights of the Old Republic remake, the untitled Amy Hennig game, and Jedi 3. However, there hasn’t been any news about revisiting The Force Unleashed.
What Would Be Great Remakes
Several Star Wars titles are due for a remake or rerelease. One of those most popular titles was Republic Commando. It’s a superb shooter, which is like The Bad Batch, and also sports the side story of Clones after Order 66. Another great game would be Star Wars: Dark Forces. This is where it all began for Star Wars games. This is a spin-off tale of Kyle Katarn, a former Imperial officer, mercenary, spy, and rebellion double agent. An updated version would be fantastic.
Other such fantastic games worthy of being remade are Dark Forces 2 Jedi Knight, Star Wars Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast, The Force Unleashed, Empire At War, Rogue Squadron 2: Rogue Leader, Masters of Teras Kasi, Episode 1: Racer, Galaxies, Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, and Galactic Battlegrounds.
What Would They Look Like
Many of these games were up to date, but, if remade, they would look spectacularly different with modern technology like Unreal Engine, Unity, Godot, and more. Any game’s remake would typically maintain the same story and gameplay as its original work. The intent of a remake is to take an older game and customize it for a new platform and audience. The title is an action-adventure game developed and published by Lucas Arts in 2008. It was first available to play on the PlayStation 2 and 3 Wii, Xbox 360, Nintendo DS, and PlayStation Portable and was just released for the Nintendo Switch two years ago.
This title bridges the first two movie trilogies as an origin story of the Rebel Alliance and the Galactic Civil War. At its center is Darth Vader’s secret apprentice, “Starkiller,” whom his master uses to seek out and eliminate Jedi in secret. It was a bestseller in the United States and Australia, selling over one million copies in its first month. It was so successful that its sequel was released two years later.
Fans of the past and future who love this universe would love to see and experience all its aspects. The big question is, what will Lucas and Disney give us next? Will it be new games that coincide with new films and shows, or will it be remakes bringing new opportunities?
