Stardew Valley: Unlocking 12 Special Abilities

Stardew Valley

Stardew Valley is still taking the world by storm since its debut back in 2016. This game has shown us its potential to evolve with its ever-growing fan base, which is always coming up with more ways to enjoy the game, like with mods. In recent news, one mod in particular is being shut down, and it’s the “Baldurs Gate” Mod, but that’s a topic for another day. Today, we’re here to discuss one of the best simulation games next to “The Sims” in my experience, and we’ll be going over how to unlock all special abilities throughout the game of Stardew Valley.

The special abilities you will find or come across inside of Stardew Valley vary from useful to “Eh, I don’t think I really need this one,” and you’ll just cast it aside, forgetting it entirely or only using it when you absolutely need to. There are a total of twelve special abilities throughout the game, and these are as follows.

We have “Forest Magic”, “Dwarvish Translation Guide”, “Rusty Key”, “Club Card”, “Special Charm”, “Skull Key”, “Magnifying Glass”, “Dark Talisman”, “Magic Ink”, “Bear’s Knowledge”, “Spring Onion Mastery” and finally we have “The Key To The Town”. Now, I know most of these sound like things you’d find and not consider a special ability, but you tell me, can you speak dwarvish? Me neither.

How To Unlock Them?

I am so glad you asked. lets discuss how it is possible for you to achieve/unlock all special abilities in Stardew Valley.

  • Forest Magic: This is a potion allowing you to read the Junimo language. You receive it from the wizard found in the wizard’s tower located in Cindersap  Forest.
  • Dwarvish Translation Guide: To obtain this language, you must donate all four Dwarf scrolls to the Stardew Valley Museum.
  • Rusty Key: You get the rusty key from Gunther after donating sixty items to the museum.
  • Club Card: The club card gets you access to the casino after completing the “The Mysterious Qi” quest.
  • Special Charm:  to unlock this item you first need the magnifying glass so you can read secret notes. After completing the quest in secret note #20 and after interacting with the truck driver will prompt him to ask for the rabbits foot obtained from completing secret note #20. Once the rabbits foot is delivered the truck driver will award you the special charm which provides a boost in the players luck.
  • Skull Key: The skull key can be found on floor 120 of the mines located in the northeast corner of the mountains.
  • Magnifying Glass: The magnifying glass allows players to read secret notes throughout the game, which is needed for some quests. This item is given to you after completing the “A Winter Mystery” quest.
  • Dark Talisman: This item can be found in a chest inside of the “Mutant Bug Lair” located to the left in the sewers.  You find this information out from “Krobus” after the wizard suggests asking him where to find it.
  • Magic Ink: Magic ink is acquired from the wizard’s second quest, which goes hand in hand with receiving the dark talisman. To obtain this, you must give the goblin who blocks the witch’s hut void mayonnaise.
  • Bear’s Knowledge: This item is unlocked by reading secret note #23 and bringing maple syrup to a bear found in the top-left corner of “Cedersap Forest”.
  • Spring Onion Mastery: To get this item, you must achieve eight hearts of friendship with both “Vincent” and “Jas”. This is usually done by giving them gifts and talking to them regularly.
  • Key To The Town: You acieve this item later in the game because it is the hardest of item to get. You receive this item after exchanging 20 (Qi gems) in “Mr. Qi’s” walnut room on Ginger Island. To access the walnut room players must first collect 100 golden walnuts thus gaining access to the quest board thats awards you Qi gems.

There you have it! All the ways you can unlock special abilities in Stardew Valley. Use these to your advantage, and don’t forget to have fun!
