Suika is a captivating Nintendo Switch and mobile game that has taken the gaming world by storm. It was developed in Japan and combines simple yet fun mechanics with an adorable aesthetic.
Players are drawn to this watermelon game because of its addictive gameplay, where the primary goal is to combine and grow various fruits to get a higher score than the last time. The game is easy-to-understand which makes it a great game for all age groups.
I downloaded this game the day it hit the North American e-shop. I immediately became addicted and spent so much time trying to beat my highest score. It’s super fun!
Suika Gameplay Mechanics
Suika started as a Nintendo Switch game exclusive to Japan. However, its popularity made the developers release it internationally and it’s now available on IOS and Android!
Suika’s gameplay involves merging fruits to create larger ones, I know it doesn’t sound like much but trust me, it’s incredibly addicting. Players start with small fruits like cherries and are required to strategically combine them to produce larger fruits and achieve the highest possible score before the board fills up. Each fruit has a specific point value.
Visuals and Aesthetics
Suika catches players’ attention at first glance with its cute design. I remember watching one of my favorite Twitch streamers playing this game and the graphics immediately made me want to play for myself! The game has a vibrant color palette as well which makes each fruit stand out.
The game’s sound design complements the visuals perfectly. Cheerful music and sound effects accompany the merging of fruits. These auditory elements make it super satisfying, especially when you get a combo going.
Why This Watermelon Game is So Addictive
Suika’s gameplay is addictive due to its perfect balance between simplicity and challenge. Players find themselves quickly drawn into the task of merging fruits. This simple mechanic makes it easy to pick up and play.
What keeps players coming back to Suika is its high replay value. The game’s challenge of beating your highest score as well as other players’ scores makes it so re-playable.
Additionally, Nintendo announced that this game is getting a Multiplayer mode as a paid DLC. Now, you can play with a friend and try and beat each other for the highest score. This makes the game both more fun and more competitive.
Tips and Tricks for New Players
I quickly want to share some tips and tricks for new players. I learned that the best thing to do when starting a new round is to focus on merging smaller fruits as quickly as you can to prevent the board from filling up.
Take some time to plan out your moves and try to anticipate the results of each merge. Avoid placing fruits randomly. I did this when I first started playing and learned that it quickly led to a cluttered board and fewer merging opportunities.
