Super Mario Party Jamboree was officially announced at the Nintendo Direct last month. It will be one of the last hurrahs of the Nintendo Switch, as it comes out towards the end of the calendar year. It hasn’t been confirmed, but the Switch’s successor is likely to be announced in 2025, so this Super Mario Party game will be one of the console’s last major games.
Regardless, it’s an exciting game. Mario Party is a beloved franchise. It’s also a staple of many Nintendo gamers’ libraries. It’s the preeminent party game, and it always provides a good time for all. Here’s what we know so far about the upcoming entry to the long-running series.
When Does Super Mario Party Jamboree Come Out?
Super Mario Party Jamboree comes out on October 17. Just a few months remain between players and the highly-anticipated title. It is expected to be one of the biggest games in the series. These games routinely come out around the holiday season (since they make perfect gifts for gamers), so it’s not a surprise that it’s coming out that long after its announcement.
Pre-orders are available now. You can head to the Nintendo website to place your order for the game now, but there are other options as well. GameStop, Target, and several other retailers have the game available for you to secure a copy. Of course, physical editions will be available on launch day as well. It is currently retailing for $59.99, and it’s unlikely that that price point will change.
The announcement of this game was a bit of a surprise. Given how big the game looks, it likely took a lot of development, something uncommon for the last games in a console’s life cycle. However, instead of DLC for the existing Mario Party game, a new one was announced, and it’s sure to be a best-seller and bring in more money than an expansion likely would have.
Key Gameplay Points for New Mario Party
Super Mario Party Jamboree promises to be one of the biggest games in this franchise, and certainly the biggest one on the Nintendo Switch. It seems to be what many thought Mario Party Superstars was going to be with all the maps and characters. Many expected the most recent title to get DLCs and expansions to reach Jamboree’s level, but instead, Nintendo is opting to make a bigger, newer game.
There are eight maps in total at launch, which rivals the most that has ever been in a Mario Party title before. There will also be 20 playable characters, again rivaling the most that has ever been in a game. It’s hard to top that number since there are a finite number of realistic Mario characters to get in this or any game. Those 20 characters can all be put to use, as online play allows for 20-person play, a new and exciting wrinkle in the game.
There will be multiple modes as well. Instead of just the standard board-based gameplay and minigames, there will be other ways to party with friends. More details will arrive the closer the official release date gets, but it’s shaping up to be a big game for the console and the franchise. Super Mario Party Jamboree very well could be an excellent way to send the Switch off and get everyone playing together.
