I’m sure many of us have had this experience: you run out of one ingredient you need for dinner and can’t substitute anything else. Two options are available: pivot and make a different recipe if you can save enough ingredients, or go to the store and grab it.
What if there was a game where you could learn how to run a store and manage your products successfully? My friend, I would like to introduce you to Supermarket Simulator.
If you’ve experienced this, I can tell you this is normal for my family. I’ve discovered that if Mom needs some ingredients for dinner while she’s cooking, I can be a good daughter and help her out (it’s milk; for some reason, we run out constantly).
They’ll Make a Simulator Game Out of Anything These Days
While I was stuck inside my dorm room during the pandemic, I found a lot of comfort in watching YouTube gamers. I wasn’t sure if this was a world I wanted to be a part of, but after I found Markiplier and Jacksepticeye, I was hooked.
Another explosion of games I saw during the pandemic was simulator games. In these games, you digitally do many tasks set before you, literally simulating what it might be like to do any of these jobs. Such is the game Supermarket Simulator.
Want some variety? There’s a Gas Station Simulator, Lawnmowing Simulator, Cooking Simulator, Alchemist Simulator, and Powerwashing Simulator (that one got some traction on YouTube), just to name a few. Now, you can run a supermarket.

Why Would I Want to Buy Supermarket Simulator?
For starters, this game teaches me the importance of stocking enough products for a day, especially when everyone wants a hot item. You only have so much money you can spend, and don’t forget that you have to pay rent at the beginning of each day. Therefore, Supermarket Simulator gives a lot of valuable life lessons.
I’m also learning about market pricing and what people want in terms of buying something and still turning a profit for myself. If you price something too high, people will refuse to buy it. If you price something too low, you’ll run out of the product too fast and have to restock it quickly, or people will be mad it’s not there.
Do you remember those math problems you did in school where you had to count out the exact change for someone who paid in cash? Well, I’m finally putting those skills to the test! I have to count out dollars and cents like I learned as a kid.
It makes me wish I had done better in accounting in college. Truthfully, I got a C in that class, only because I had a friend helping me.
Some Minor Criticisms and Things to Update In Supermarket Simulator
Supermarket Simulator is still in early access, so some improvements will be made.
One major thing that I would like to see improved in Supermarket Simulator is the ability to move products around freely. The system works right now because you have to pick up a box with the matching item and put all the products on the shelf. If one product is left on one shelf, I wish I could move it over to the full shelf or have it as a backlog to fill in once someone takes the product.
Another pet peeve is having to balance being a cashier and a restocker at the same time. As you advance your Supermarket Simulator, you can hire more cashiers and restockers, but initially, you’re on your own.
If there was a way to have a cashier at the beginning of the game so you could focus on buying and restocking the products, I know I would have an easier time with the game. Other than that, I think Supermarket Simulator has the potential to be fun for people who want a cozy simulator game. In the meantime, I’ll run this business the best I can and (*sound of fridge opening*) make sure you have milk on your shopping list! 🙂
