Survival Kids: The Long Forgotten Cult Classic Returning To Nintendo Switch 2

Survival Kids revival

From the devs of Silent Hill and Metal Gear, Konami, we have a co-op game making its way to the Switch 2 on its launch date, June 5, 2025! Survival kids, so yeah, a complete 180 from games we usually see from this dev, but this is a reinterpretation of an earlier version that came out on the Game Boy Color in 1999. What can we expect from this ahead-of-its-time classic?

You and three of your friends find a map to an unknown adventure and decide to set sail! Problem? You’re children and you haven’t covered proper expedition protocols yet and you’re swept off course to a chain of deserted islands that are on the backs of giant, whurtles? Whale turtle? With no chance of recovery! What’s a kid to do?!

Survive, that’s what! The island may be deserted but it’s full of resources and secrets for you and your friends to discover! You’ll chop trees, fish, cook your food, and build a home away from home, all while trying to figure out how to get back. Don’t worry, Survival Kids supports both local and online co-op play, so you’re not surviving on your own (unless you wanna, no judgment).

Survival Kids is incredibly accessible for players. It has an intuitive and simple inventory that players can easily manage. This allows for an easier crafting system where finding materials for all your tasks feels natural. It’s a survival game, just without the headache of inventory control.

The visuals of the game favor a cutesy, toon-style which is backed by a playful soundtrack and whimsical effects. It’s like you’ve been dropped into your favorite Saturday morning cartoon. Just an all-around fun experience.

Powered By Switch 2 Features

Konami has taken full advantage of the Switch 2’s system. Survival Kids integrates its game-sharing and in-game chat features for a smoother gameplay between you and your friends. You can share screens and communicate in real time by using the built in-mic and Nintendo camera (if you wanna splurge for it), that allow your to easily work through tasks together.

Final Thoughts

Survival Kids takes a hard right turn from Konami’s usual gritty titles (if you don’t count the original). It looks like a creative co-op that’s perfect for the Switch 2. With vibrant visuals, fun mechanics, and co-op-centered play, this game is shaping up as a great title to use for the newest game system. Unless something goes wrong, this game might become a fan favorite.
