Since Teamfight Tactics’ Set 8: Monsters Attack, Hero Augments have become a staple of every Set. While Monsters Attack had Hero Augments for every unit, the following Set had a select few. Usually, they get given to frontline tanks who are not the carry of their compositions. For Cyber City, there are six Hero Augments. The units chosen are Jax, Poppy, Sylas, Vi, Rhaast, and Gragas. Today, we will dive into how you button mash with the Poppy Hero Augment.
Teamfight Tactics Button Mash Overview
Poppy is a one-cost champion with the traits Bastion and Cyberboss. In most compositions she gets played in, Poppy falls by the wayside as she is there for her traits. However, with the Hero Augment, that all changes. Poppy becomes a focal point for the majority of the game.
Instead of a Buckler that Poppy tosses, Poppy’s ability makes her wallop three times, alternating between the current target and one other unit, one hex away. If there is only one target within range, she will wallop that target. If the target dies during the animation and no other units are close, Poppy will dash and wallop the nearest unit. Button Mash is a one-cost reroll composition, so we will mainly stay at level five for most rounds.
Button Mash Early Game
Winstreaking in the early game with Button Mash is unlikely. You will need at least a two-star Poppy and items for her to do so. There is little to no nuance to the early game here. Collect copies of Poppy and any Nitro units as you build up your economy. Holding Veigars, while it may help hit a three-star, is not necessary if selling them allows you to reach economic thresholds. Poppy also needs specific items to get the most value from the Hero Augment.
As a result, losing in Stage Two will ensure you have carousel priority to find a crucial component. Poppy’s items include two fighter staples in Bloodthirster and Titan’s Resolve for sustain and durability. Jeweled Gauntlet is our last item to make the Wallops hit as hard as possible.
Button Mash Mid-Game
You want to slow-roll for three-star Poppy, Nitro units, and Veigar at level five. With five possible units to three-star, you will rarely find all of them. The gold you sink into all of them and the lack of bench space will make it nearly impossible to do so in most games. Naturally, the highest priority is Poppy. Other than that, focus on hitting the three stars of the units you are closest to. Also, be on the lookout for any other players holding copies of Nitro units.
If anyone finds a significant amount, you may want to give up on hitting that Nitro unit. While the chances of finding a three-star are relatively low, you do not want to spend extra time getting it. When you get the three-star units, put excess gold into levels.
Button Mash Late Game
You do not want to spend significant time finding other three-star units because you need Ziggs and Kobuko to round out your board. Kobuko and Ziggs are vital to make the composition function in the late game. Four Cyberbosses give significant stat bonuses to Poppy and your other Cyberboss units. Your late-game composition should be Kindred, Nidalee, Poppy, Shyvana, Veigar, Elise, Ziggs, and Kobuko. Given you reroll at level five, hitting level nine will rarely happen.
Leftover AP carry items go to Veigar, while Kindred can use AD items. Tank items remain on Shyvana until you find Kobuko, even if Shyvana is three-star. You must position Poppy, Kobuko, and Veigar to focus on the same targets, allowing you to burst through the frontlines.
When to Play Button Mash
The prerequisite for this composition is the Button Mash Augment. There is no other way to play it without the Augment. If you are offered the Augment as an option, when should you take it? The ideal scenario in an early game is where you have several items(Vi encounter/PvE rounds drop four or more components). Without the items, you will struggle to play this composition to the best of your ability. While scouting, look for anyone who is angling to play Nitro Reroll. While you can still play it if someone does, if they are playing the Veigar variation, you may struggle to find a three-star Poppy.
Best Augments to Take
New High Score and Cower Weaklings are great options to optimize this composition. As for all one and two-cost reroll compositions, Starry Night will always be a consideration. An excellent combat Augment to take for this composition is Gargantuan’s Resolve. Unfortunately, this is a Black Market Augment, so you rarely see it. If you do, be ready to snap it up, as Button Mash Poppy utilizes the extra stacks exceptionally well. Mentorship II makes Poppy more durable and casts more often with additional Health and Attack Speed.
