Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons Support A Wild Configuration with Possible Gameplay Applications
The Nintendo Switch 2 releases on June 5th. As the release date draws closer, fans are eagerly awaiting any news about the system. There is now an interesting tidbit about the Switch 2’s Joy-Con controllers. You can apparently attach them to the console screen facing the reverse direction.
The Nintendo Switch 2’s Magnetic Joy-Cons

One of the Switch 2 features that Nintendo has been advertising is that the Joy-Con controllers can attach to the screen magnetically. As the Switch 2 trailer advertises, “strong magnets keep the controllers firmly attached to the system.” As a result of the magnet polarity, you will be able to attach them to the system facing away from the screen. All you have to do is swap the placement of the two Joy-Cons – the left controller in the right slot and the right controller in the left slot – and you can attach them backwards.
Was This Intentional?
It may be a mere result of magnet polarity, but gamers can’t help but wonder if this accidental feature wasn’t so accidental. Nintendo has never shied away from using strange gimmicks in its games. Games like Wii Sports and 1-2-Switch have revolved around motion control gimmicks. Perhaps the upcoming Welcome Tour for the Nintendo Switch 2 will include a minigame where you attach the Joy-Cons backwards.
Gameplay Possibilities
Fans are already speculating on ways that this feature could be implemented in games. Some suggestions on social media have included using it in a Legend of Zelda dungeon puzzle or as a means to evolve Pokémon in a Pokémon game. Another fun idea by a Reddit user named “Corticalization” was “a multiplayer game concept where one person is playing the console in reverse, while another is facing the screen and telling them what to do.”
Conclusion
Whether or not this weird feature ends up used in any Nintendo Switch 2 games remains to be seen. However, people should have fun playing around with it regardless. It could be used as a way to up the challenge when playing games. I can see the gaming community putting out challenges to see how far you can get in certain games with the controllers reversed. It could go viral on YouTube.
