On Nov. 22nd, Rockstar fans patiently waited for Rockstar to release a second trailer for GTA 6. When the day passed, they expressed their frustrations at the YouTuber who predicted its appearance, The Gaming Gorilla (TGG). He later apologized to the GTA community on Nov. 23rd and explained it was a parody skit.
The GTA 6 Trailer 2 Prediction
On November 12th, GTA acclaimed YouTuber, TGG posted a video about when GTA 6’s second trailer will be released. He presented a white markerboard with images from GTA, calendars, and moons.
Moon Theory
TGG first showed viewers various pictures of GTA 5 Online’s Moon Festival on Sept. 12th, 2023. Fans noticed one of Rockstar’s Twitter (now X) in-game teaser photos had a specific moon phase. It was a waning gibbous and across it was the Vinewood sign. It was mostly covered by the players in front, only showing the V and I.
This is where fans believed Rockstar wanted them to keep an eye out for the next trailer as it’s the Roman numeral for 6. TGG pointed out in their video that the first time a waning gibbous appeared during that month was on Friday, December 1st. It’s the same day when Rockstar teased about their return and released the trailer 3 days later.
Using Moon Cycle for Date Predictions
In the original Reddit post, GTA 6 was predicted to appear in October, then November, and finally December 2023. Then on Nov. 1st, 2024, Rockstar posted an update about GTA 5 Online’s newest update coming in December. There’s a teaser image of a person sitting on the hood of their car. Above them is a moon which got the GTA community to start using Moon Theory to predict the release.
TGG explained to his viewers that the person’s pose is the same as the game’s protagonist, Jason. Jason can be found on the GTA 6 cover art sitting on the car hood the exact same way. This moon is also a waning gibbous which got TGG to believe Nov. 22nd is when the next game trailer will drop. He added in a second prediction that the new trailer could be revealed before the new GTA 5 Online Dec. 10th update. It happened before with the first trailer released before the Dec. 12th expansion.
The TGG Backlash
After GTA 6 was awarded ‘Most Wanted Game’ at the Golden Joystick Awards on Nov. 21st, fans revisited the first game trailer. Brand new comments were appearing to show they were ready for Rockstar to drop a new trailer the next day. The GTA community and game journalists were patiently waiting for the next 24 hours. Their enthusiasm later became anger, voicing it over to TGG’s prediction video.
Immediately, on Nov. 23rd, he released an apology video to the GTA community. The GTA YouTuber said, “I’ve always tried not to clickbait and always try to give good info. And people in my comment section have told me I have let them down. For those who felt misled, I am quite sorry.” TGG explained to his viewers the process of the prediction video.
To show how ridiculous the Moon Theory was as it failed the first time with an October trailer release, he made a skit out of it. This skit is based on the popular It’s Always Sunny in Philadephia meme, Pepe Silvia. However, part of his followers felt he should’ve specified it was a joke as many believed in his prediction.
How It Could Have Been Avoided
It’s very strange to see how YouTubers are using whatever they can to keep their channel alive. Many influencers nowadays will remain in one niche rather than expanding on other interests. For TGG, there really wasn’t much information on the next GTA 6 trailer so he made a skit about the Moon Theory. It would have been best to put “parody’ in the video’s title. Instead, people believed he was informing gamers when the next trailer would appear. TGG’s community is partially heartbroken while others forgave his action.
