The 3 Best RPGs on the Nintendo DS

RPG

The Nintendo DS is one of the best handhelds. Nintendo hit it out of the park. This handheld gadget still holds up so well. The clamshell design makes it super portable. The library of great action, RPG, and adventure games. The years and years of support it had. The customizability with the amount of versions this console had. It was such a well-rounded handheld.

The DS held up so well that its successor, the 3DS, pretty much did what it did, just more. Same design, just with an extra gimmick. Going back to the library, this console’s library is stacked. I love RPGs so much. They usually last a while, but have fun combat and well-written stories. The DS had so many great and unique RPGs. It’s hard to narrow it down to three, but I’ll try it anyway.

Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver

It’s a Nintendo console. There has to be a Pokemon entry somewhere here. And there are tons of great Pokemon games to choose from. Games like Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, and the Black and White duology are great games that all deserve love. But when it comes down to it, HeartGold and SoulSilver are just too good not to mention here. These games are remakes of the second Pokemon games.

Gold and Silver were great, but these remakes just take it to the next level. These games are challenging, but not too hard where you’ll break your console. They have so many Pokemon to choose from. The vibe and aesthetic of these games are so nice and cozy. There’s also so much darn content in this game it’s crazy. These games will last you a while, and they’re worth every second.

Chrono Trigger

So I will admit, I’m cheating a bit here. Chrono Trigger isn’t exclusive to the DS. It was originally released back in the 1990s on the Super Nintendo. It was phenomenal back then. And on the DS, Square Enix knocked it out of the park even more. What makes this version of the game so great are all the slight new additions. Chrono Trigger is such a replayable game.

This is due to the multiple endings. This game isn’t that long, especially for an RPG. As far as RPGs go, it might be considered short. On replays, you can beat the game in less than 15 hours. RPGS usually go a lot longer than that. Being able to play this game on the go, with all the new endings, and all the content from other ports of the game, wow. It makes it the definitive Chrono Trigger experience, and as far as RPGs, is worth it.

The World Ends With You

So for the last game, I wanted to pick a definitive entry. This console means a lot to me, and this game also means a lot to me. The World Ends With You is one of the most unique and creative games I’ve ever played. I don’t want to give away any spoilers. This game is a modern RPG taking place in Shibuya, Japan, with supernatural elements.

This game has such a unique and interesting combat system. You control two characters at the same time on two different screens. It sounds bad, but it’s great and is fun once you get good at it. The story alone makes this game incredible. It is such a great coming-of-age story. The character designs too are so stylish. This game sums up how cool and hip the DS was. This entire list does. Enjoy some great RPG gaming!
