We finally have more information about the upcoming horror game by Supermassive Games and Behaviour Interactive. Months after being revealed at The Game Awards in 2023, a second trailer for The Casting of Frank Stone was released on May 14. While we still don’t have a solid release date, the trailer briefly introduces us to the group of characters many will try and fail to keep alive in this choice-based game. It also showcased some of the mysterious and haunting sights players will encounter.
Let’s get right into what we know so far about The Casting of Frank Stone and what we might expect from the gameplay.
The Casting of Frank Stone: The Story So Far
The story takes place within the world of Behaviour Interactive’s Dead By Daylight in a fictional town called Cedar Hills, which seems like it has quite a history of disappearances and deaths thanks to a man known as Frank Stone. He was a brutal killer who left a blood-soaked legacy that has lasted for generations. The main hotspot for his crimes was in the depths of the Cedar Steel Mill. Judging by the trailer, it’s where the main chunk of the game will take place.
The ones exploring that location will be a group of young filmmakers seeking to make a movie at that site, but there’s a problem. The steel mill is closed off and likely for good reason. Of course, like many unfortunate characters throughout the history of horror, the group ignores the warnings they are given and enters the mill anyway. After all, you can’t have a classic horror story without people making bad decisions.
However, the game might not be your average horror story. The trailer shows some possibly other-worldly dangers that will threaten the lives of our group of bad decision-makers while they traverse the mill and try to unravel a dark mystery. Every time I rewatch the trailer, some of these mysterious scenes remind me of Stranger Things, which I will almost always never be angry about.

What the Gameplay Might Be Like
Based on the description of the game on the official website as well as in the caption below the trailer, this game will be heavily based on the story and the choices you make. As Supermassive Games is responsible for titles such as The Quarry, Until Dawn, and all the games within The Dark Pictures Anthology, we should expect similar gameplay with many quick time events (QTEs) and time-based choices. Of course, failing those QTEs or making the wrong decisions could have deadly consequences.
As of right now, it’s unclear if any of the gameplay will be similar to Dead By Daylight, knocking down pallets to block a killer’s path for example, but it is confirmed it’s within the same universe as the game. I am quite interested in learning just what that means for the story as we learn and see more. This might be a bold assumption, but I would not be surprised at all if the characters in The Casting of Frank Stone show up in Dead By Daylight.
My Expectations for the Game
As a lover of video games and the general horror genre of fiction in its entirety, I am very excited about this game. I feel like the collaboration with Behaviour Interactive can easily set apart The Casting of Frank Stone from the other titles in the library of Supermassive Games. I’m hoping for some unexpected twists and turns, an atmosphere that truly fills players with dread, and some worthwhile scares within the realms of the natural and supernatural. If this game delivers all of those, it is sure to be a success in my mind.
