Tides of Annihilation was announced tonight at PlayStation’s State of Play. Giving us a look at an apocalyptic world, corrupted by monsters and an odd force. We are given a look at a new Heroine and what to expect from gameplay.
Tides of Annihilation
If you’ve seen the trailer you already hear a recognizable voice, Jennifer English, she is a voice actress in the hit from Larian Studio’s Baldur’s Gate 3, where she plays the Half-Elf, Shadowheart, and Carlotta in Wuthering Waves. After getting the wonderful introduction by her voice, we are welcomed to the apocalyptic world where we see the new Heroine: Gwendolyn, as she walks up to a mass grave and pulls a blade from the chest of a knight as she glows with power.
We follow her and a red-haired friend to the next scene as she announces the “Grail Pieces,” during this trailer and in the end, it gives hints this is possibly about the Knights of the Round Table as Gwendolyn mentions the “Table is dead.”
After the scene where they mention the piece of the grail, the heroine brings up a mention of a wish. In the lore of the Holy Grail, it is mentioned that it can grant wishes as it is a divine cup and can manipulate whatever the wisher desires. This is seen in both mythology and even from an anime known as the Fate Series where they fight for the famous Holy Grail, so maybe the same will be true for Tides of Annihilation.
The trailer shows a lot, it shows a mixture of Dark Souls boss fights, exploration, and overall a really beautiful apocalyptic land. It looks like in Tides of Annihilation you play as Gwendolyn to reunite the Round Table and its knights. Eventually interacting with bosses that are probably remnants of the Knights. One blonde knight is seen in the trailer warning Gwendolyn and proceeding to attack her. This game looks interesting and like tons of fun for someone who loves the fable of King Author and his Knights. It mentions “In Development for PS5” but it is also for Xbox and Steam aiming for a 2025 release date. On the Steam Page, it states:
“London lies in ruin, torn apart by an abrupt invasion from another realm. As Gwendolyn, the city’s last surviving inhabitant, you will face off against otherworldly foes as she navigates a world where reality and fantasy intertwine, unraveling the mysteries binding this shattered existence. A once-vibrant London has been torn asunder into an eerie reflection of itself—its buildings distorted, lifeforms transformed, and its history shrouded in shadow.
Venture into this devastated world to uncover hidden truths and find a way to save your family, city, and the very fabric of reality itself. Experience a unique knightly combat system that allows you to command a band of over ten legendary knights. Inspired by Arthurian lore, each knight brings unique skills and abilities to your team. Combine their powers to craft your battle strategies, unleashing awe-inspiring cooperative attacks. Forge a path to victory with your personalized Order of Knights.”
Final Thoughts
This game looks gorgeous and amazing, my fingers are crossed that it will end up better than Forspoken. It had a lot of potential but flopped due to UI issues and overall performance issues that made the game more of a mess than it was intended to be. Everyone has their opinions on it, mine came with the performance of the game and it made it unattractive to play it. I hope Tides of Annihilation doesn’t fall in the same boat. State of Play announced a lot of new releases, including a new Digimon game and the launch trailer for Monster Hunter Wilds.
