The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is the latest entry to a franchise that has become known for long games. Its last two mainline entries, Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom were massive games that took hundreds of hours to beat. That doesn’t even include the laundry list of side quests available, either. Completionists would have needed over 200 hours to do everything in Tears of the Kingdom. Even some of the older games, like Twilight Princess or Wind Waker took 30 or 40 hours. Is this the case for the latest Zelda romp?
How Long It Takes to Beat Echoes of Wisdom
Echoes of Wisdom, according to HowLongToBeat, will take players 20 hours to complete the main storyline. Doing all the side quests adds roughly another six hours to the playtime. Completing every single thing, which means finding every chest and piece of heart hidden away in this version of Hyrule, will take about 32 hours in total. This makes it very similar in length to Majora’s Mask.
In many ways, Echoes of Wisdom has been compared to Link’s Awakening. They come from the same developers and the art style is identical. However, it was revealed before the game came out that the map alone was eight times bigger. That has translated to needing six more hours to beat the latest title than it did the 2019 remake. While this game is far from the lengthy endeavor that both Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom were, Echoes of Wisdom is far from a short-lived adventure.
Side Quests to Prioritize
Side quests, of which there are plenty in Echoes of Wisdom, only serve to add time to a playthrough as well as giving items. They’re not mandatory to the plot, so they can be skipped. However, that would rob players of some fun. Not every side quest is incredible, though, so if you’re looking to extend the playtime but not do every single thing, here are the side quests you need to look into completing:
- Automaton Engineer Dampe
- Runaway Horse
- Impa’s Gift
- Beetle Ballyhoo
- Wild Sandstorms
- Dohna’s Challenge
- The Zora Child’s Fate
- Secret Chief Talks
- Let’s Play A Game
- The Great Fairy’s Request
- A Mountainous Mystery
- Cotton-Candy Hunt
- Recipes, Please!
- Cuccos on the Loose
- Questioning the Local Cats
Many of these give players useful items, such as clothing or accessories. This is far from a comprehensive list, but these side quests are both fun and rewarding. If you’re going to skip some, choose some of the above side quests in Echoes of Wisdom to give yourself more to do.
In Conclusion
There is a great debate in the gaming world lately over the price-to-time ratio. If Echoes of Wisdom costs $60, the argument is that there should be $60 worth of time to play the game. There is no direct translation between time and money, but Echoes of Wisdom is long enough that the debate shouldn’t rage on. It’s a fun game with plenty to do, so players can rest assured that their money was well-spent.
