Tony Hawk Pro Skater Gives 1-Second Look At New Spongebob Map

Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 & 4 trailer gives one-second look at Spongebob course

Tony Hawk’s Pro-Skater is an iconic sports franchise that helped bring extreme sports on the map in gaming and remains a pop culture phenomenon to this day. Recently, it was announced that Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 was going to be a remake package of the originals, to be released later in July 2025. This package is expected to be similar to the 2020 Remake of 1 + 2. Originally released in the 2000s, the games should see great enhancements upon their remake. It also now appears, through the trailer on the Switch 2 Nintendo Direct Wednesday, that another pop culture phenomenon will be crossing over to the games: SpongeBob SquarePants.

Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 + 4 Is Getting a Switch 2 Release

We already knew that Pro Skater was coming to all current consoles, but it is now official that the game will also be playable on Switch 2, releasing on June 5th. The game itself will drop on all consoles on July 11th, after a switch in production companies. Until then, we have seen a gameplay trailer that gives us an idea of what to expect. As with all entries in the series, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 will use the same mechanics that require players to attempt tricks to score points based on quality. Level objectives, score challenges, and 2-minute drills will all be present again as well.

A total of 27 playable professional skateboarders are present in the game, along with several fictional characters (including from the DOOM franchise). The remake shows us very clear visual enhancements, with smoother gameplay and quality-of-life improvements. The visuals and colors pop on the screen. A new character, Nora Vasconcellos, was introduced in the trailer, along with other modern skateboarders such as Rayssa Leal, Margielyn Didal, and Yuto Horigome.

Causing the most excitement, perhaps, was the new level that was briefly teased in the trailer. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 features an underwater SpongeBob SquarePants Bikini Bottom level, which was very briefly shown during Nora’s “Skater Island” part of the presentation. While it was one or two seconds, the clip shows the patented “A Few Moments Later” screen, a rescue buoy with Bikini Bottom painted on it, and an image of Squidward’s, Spongebob’s, and Patrick’s houses. Players can even catch a glimpse of the Chum Bucket and The Krusty Krab.

Final Thoughts

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater is already an iconic piece of video game culture. Crossing over with a massive show such as SpongeBob is something that never needed to happen, but now that it has, it feels like it has been missing all along. It is the crossover that should make for incredibly exciting discussion points for gamers. The additional changes in the remakes appear to enhance and modernize the game, and the added characters are refreshing for younger audiences. Altogether, this remake should be great, and it is even better that the Switch 2 gamers will also get to see its release.
