Top 3 Best Tetris Games Of All-Time

Top Tetris Games of All-Time

We’ve come a long way since Tetris from 1989 on the Nintendo Game Boy.  While many entries in the franchise are good games, today, I’m in search of the absolute best.  Which game in the series is brimming with content more so than any other?  Which game in the series has the most engaging take on the simple Tetris gameplay?  Let’s find out!

3. Tetris DS

The Nintendo DS was home to some of the best casual gaming experiences of all time.  Games like Nintnedogs and New Super Mario Bros. were monumental releases.  Looking back, it’s easy to see why just another Tetris game got lost in the shuffle.  Well, the joke’s on them!  Becuase Tetris DS arguably has the most content of any official release in the series.  The amount of modes and twists to the gameplay is still impressive, and the game uses classic NES sprite art to add some neat visual flair.  A lot of the features that this game has are missing in most, if not all, recent releases.

2. Tetris Effect: Connected

An expanded game of Tetris Effect?  Yes please!  The original game was amazing, but this adds a multiplayer mode on top of everything else.  Originally inspired by a real phenomenon of the same name, a VR take on one of the most iconic gaming experiences ever created was surely going to be a success.  Being engrossed in your headset makes this easily one of the most unique games in the series, gameplay-wise.  Virtual reality takes the immersion to the next level.

1. Tetr.io

Sometimes, the greatest experiences in gaming are fan-made.  This is a prime example of that.  While other fan-games like Jstris were considered for this spot, I ultimately decided that Tetr.io has the most content and options out of any game in the puzzle genre.  And, best of all, it’s all free!  You can play it in your browser right now and experience some of the tightest gameplay with more customization options than any other.

Final Thoughts

Just because gaming has evolved tremendously over the years doesn’t mean that simpler experiences have lost their merit.  Not only can you still have fun with almost any interpretation of Tetris, but developers can still make new games within the framework that continue to push boundaries even if the meat of the content started at the very beginning of gaming.
