Vampire Survivors is a popular 2022 video game that has reached critical acclaim and has become a massive part of gaming pop culture. It does not fit well into a single box, blending elements of roguelike and shoot ’em up, which has since helped the game spawn its own genre that other games have attempted to replicate. Since the original release, the game has collaborated on many different crossovers. Combined with their expansions, Vampire Survivors has had an extensive amount of content for players to pour through. Now, it appears a new crossover is in the works, one that Square Enix fans may be especially excited about.
Vampire Survivors: Emerald Diorama is Playable Immediately
Vampire Survivors challenges the player with near-constant chaos. The role of the player is to take control of their character, who attacks automatically. The player will face waves of vampires and attempt to survive as long as they can. The further a player gets, the more rewards they earn. The game has since greatly expanded, with both free and paid content. Vampire Survivors has won multiple awards, including BAFTA Game Awards for Best Game Design and Best Game.
Poncle, the developer of Vampire Survivors, has previously collaborated with games such as Among Us, Castlevania, and Contra. This time, they paired with behemoth Square Enix and their iconic, growing role-playing game SaGa. Specifically, the game will be featuring characters from SaGa Emerald Beyond, hence the expansion name.
Not only is the content available right now, but it is available for free. Poncle has announced that the new SaGa characters will play alongside the Vampire Survivors. Included in the content expansion will be 40+ new attacks, 16 new playable characters and skins, and even a new stage broken into seven separate biomes.
Vampire Survivors was already a wildly successful game, even receiving a near-perfect rating from GameInformer magazine back in 2022 upon release. With a newly established partnership in hand and Poncle’s known affinity for collaboration, the door could be open for more parings in the future. Final Fantasy is the biggest game that comes to mind, but Dragon Quest, Octopath Traveler, Kingdom Hearts, Mana, and Bravely all feel like potential matchups that could do well in the roguelike game.
Final Thoughts
Vampire Survivors may go down as one of the most popular and successful games of the current era. The concept was so basic, but the rapid positive reception has helped it to grow into something far beyond anyone’s initial expectations. With yet another big collaboration now in hand, the game looks to keep players engaged for years to come. The free content, Emerald Diorama, is downloadable now for free on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series, Xbox One, Switch, PC, iOS, and Android.
