Warframe is a massive free-to-play MMO looter shooter. On August 21, 2024, Warframe’s development studio Digital Extremes released their newest update, ‘The Lotus Eaters’. This in-game quest shows our guide, the Lotus, slowly succumbing to a call from an eldritch being. She holds a phone that is calling from centuries ago. It is up to you, the player, to establish a connection back to 1999 so you can search for a man named Albrecht Entrati who can stop it all. Lotus Eaters in Greek Mythology represent people who spend their days feeling lazy and indifferent. Spoilers up ahead if you wish to play the quest on your own.
‘The Lotus Eaters’ Quest Summary
In contrast to ‘The New War’, which spans five hours, ‘The Lotus Eaters’ is the shortest in Warframe spanning only five minutes. It begins with a strange hymn originating from Deimos. Upon inspecting the noise, you find the Lotus humming her signature tune over the ringing of Albrecht Entrati’s phone. The Drifter and the Operator both try to communicate with her, but she appears entranced by the call. She warns that the Great Indifference, an eldritch being existing in Warframe’s universe, wants to take the Operator. This is likely due to them not holding up their end of the deal that took place in the Zariman 10-0.
Because the Indifference wants to take the Operator, the Drifter must be the one to use transference on the phone. When this is done, the player is transported into 1999. Albrecht Entrati’s hairless kavat, Kalymos, guides the Drifter through the Höllvania Mall. They approach a computer room and Kalymos fades away, her job of leading you to the phone officially done. You transfer back through the phone and end up next to the Lotus once again. The Drifter successfully set up a transference link back in time to 1999. After returning to your ship, an inbox message from Loid explains that the Kalymos Sequence is almost complete and that not everyone hears the Indifference’s call.
What This Means For The Future Of Warframe
With a stable transference link established back in 1999, this quest perfectly sets the stage for the next major update coming to Warframe in Winter 2024. In ‘Warframe: 1999’, the Drifter will likely leave through this link to find Albrecht Entrati. The Protoframes, shown off during Tennocon 2024, are also searching for Entrati, so an alliance forming from this is likely. It may even spark some romances in the new dating minigame within ‘Warframe: 1999’. Entrati calling through the phone compared with a call from the Indifference tempting Lotus raises red flags as to whether Albrecht is still Albrecht. The Lotus seems rather… indifferent.
Additional Content And Where To Play
Also released in ‘The Lotus Eaters’ was Sevagoth Prime and his signature weapon, Epitaph Prime. He also released with Nautilus Prime, and he is the first Prime Warframe to release with a Signa. New Tennogen skins dropped in this update as well. A highly-anticipated feature is the addition of silver-tier Forma rewards from relics now giving two Forma blueprints instead of one. Many other bug fixes and optimization tweaks were also deployed in this patch. Warframe’s ‘The Lotus Eaters’ is free to play on PC, Consoles, Switch, and Mobile. Expect to spend a decent amount of hours playing before you access this quest, though, as Warframe’s story and gameplay are very expansive.
