Over the last two decades, MLB The Show has dominated the market for baseball games. The franchise brings a realistic feel to America’s Pastime, which everyone can enjoy, with game modes of controlling your organization from the top down in the Franchise mode or taking your player throughout the minors to hitting the walk-off in the World Series with the Road to the Show mode. You can even create your own squad of legends with the Diamond Dynasty, so there is literally something for every baseball fan! The Show seems to have everything a fan could want, but is there anything the game could add? The answer is yes!
What Could MLB The Show 25 Add
I have been playing MLB The Show pretty much since the existence of the franchise. It is one of two games that I get every year religiously! As far as sports games, I think The Show is the most accurate depiction of any sports game out there from top to bottom. That doesn’t mean it couldn’t use some nice additions. Fans loved the addition of the Create a Stadium feature that came to life a few years ago, giving gamers the chance to customize every aspect of the ballpark.
First, they should add the ability to sign international free agents in Franchise mode. The influence of the newly named Hall of Famer Ichiro Suzuki has seen an influx of Asian-born players coming over to the States to play in the Majors. Imagine a generational pitcher named Andrew Kim, who has been dominating professional baseball in South Korea and wants to play in MLB. Kim could have narrowed his destinations down to five teams, and you happen to be one of them. Now, it’s your job to persuade the pitcher with salary and facility perks to lock in the future All-Star. Pitch the idea of building your starting rotation around him and encourage him to sign with your club.
Another thing that should be added is the ability to add expansion teams to the Franchise mode. I will age myself a little bit, but in the early 2000s, there was a baseball game called All-Star Baseball. The game’s best feature was the ability to have an expansion draft with an opportunity to choose a city, uniforms, and stadiums and select an unprotected player from each team. The NHL video game franchise has implemented this, and to much surprise, I can’t believe others have not followed. I enjoy being able to relocate my favorite teams or a small market team, but starting my own would be a dream come true.
Final Thoughts
Don’t get me wrong, I love MLB The Show, but that doesn’t mean it couldn’t use some small additions to make the game even more fun and realistic. Another small gripe is the contract structures. Let’s get to the point where we are dealing with realistic figures. Let’s have to pay Ohetani 500 mil to come to your squad. You may even have to pay a little more if you are a small market team trying to sway him to play for your club. Sometimes, the gameplay isn’t the only thing that needs improving. Fans enjoy the small details in different game modes when you’re off the field as well.
