What We Know About Kingdom Hearts 4

Kingdom Hearts is a video game series that has a die-hard fanbase. Therefore, Kingdom Hearts 4 is a game that has been highly anticipated for years now. It’s interesting because Kingdom Hearts has always had a long wait for new entries and games. Kingdom Hearts 1 came out in 2002, then 2 was released in 2005, and 3 finally was released in 2019. That’s an incredible wait. Now, of course, Kingdom Hearts 3 wasn’t announced back in 2005, but still, the wait was colossal.

Now with 3 done and dusted, Kingdom Hearts 4 is up on the docket. This game was first announced in a reveal trailer in 2022. That was only three years after the third game, so a moderate amount of waiting. The wait for Kingdom Hearts 3 felt agonizing, especially for the hardcore fans. Now, it feels like Kingdom Hearts 4 is in that same scenario. Here’s a quick rundown of everything we know of the game so far.

Kingdom Hearts 4 Reveal Trailer

The reveal trailer for Kingdom Hearts 4 honestly came out of nowhere. There was a ton of really cool and intriguing stuff shown in it regarding Sora and the new world he found himself in. In the reveal trailer, which is only a couple of minutes long, Sora is shown to have woken up in a luxury high-rise apartment. He finds himself in a new world, called Quadratum. The juxtaposition between this environment and the previous worlds Sora has visited is quite stark.

Kingdom Hearts 4’s look and aesthetic seem very removed from the rest of the series. Not in a bad way, but the graphics and look are very realistic yet stylized. This game looks beautiful, the visuals in this series have always been good, but Kingdom Hearts 4 seems to want to have a realistic visual style. And it looks great. We saw some clips of gameplay, and then some story details, but nothing too much to chew on.

Leaks and Release Dates

There haven’t been any formal announcements from Square Enix, the company that develops this game when it comes to a release date or even a window for Kingdom Hearts 4. This is unfortunately something Square Enix does a lot. Looking at other titles, like Final Fantasy 15, they announced that game back in 2006. When was it officially released? The fall of 2016, a whole ten years. That is sadly not a joke. It’s the same thing with some other games, even in the same series.

Kingdom Hearts 4 has had some news dropped, but not from whom you might think. Various fans and leakers online have dropped information about the game’s release date and state. One infamous leaker on X has recently talked about the state of Kingdom Hearts 4. They’ve mentioned how the game has a release window of 2026, and the overall state of the game has changed in a major, interesting way. Now first off, these are all leaks, so they must be taken with a grain of salt.

Recent Updates and the Future

Leaks are such a hit-or-miss kind of affair. Sometimes they come out and they’re completely true, and other times they come out and they’re complete nonsense. And it hurts, especially when a series you love gets leaked and it makes you hopeful for the future of the game. Then it turns out to be false and it makes the whole excitement for the game die down.

There have been no recent updates for Kingdom Hearts 4, unfortunately. In terms of the future of the game, it’s up in the air. D23 is a yearly Disney event that takes place that many Kingdom Hearts games, like 3, have received new trailers for. This year’s event will take place in August, so maybe around then we’ll see some Kingdom Hearts 4 news. If anything, the fanbase is certainly patient. We’ll keep waiting, and hopefully, we’ll hear something sooner rather than later.
