What Zelda to Play Before Echoes of Wisdom in 2024

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is mere weeks away now. The September 27 release date is rapidly approaching, which means there’s precious little time left to play any other games before this one comes out. Since it’s part of a franchise, it might be good to revisit some other titles before embarking on this one.

It’s the newest, but almost every single Zelda title has called back on or referred to other games in a wide variety of ways. Therefore, it’s a good idea to check out some others in preparation. It is worth noting that these three games, like most in the series, are fairly long. It will be difficult to play and beat all three of them in 17 days, but regardless, they are all worth checking out.

What to Play in Anticipation of The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom

Tears of the Kingdom

Tears of the Kingdom is the newest game in The Legend of Zelda presently, which means most gamers have played it. The reason this is such an important to revisit or pick up for the first time, aside from the fact that it’s widely heralded as a masterpiece, is that the mechanics will likely be helpful. Echoes of Wisdom showcases an echo ability that greatly resembles the Ultrahand and Fuse abilities that debuted in Tears of the Kingdom. They’re not a part of any other game, so the familiarity with this type of puzzle-solving will pay dividends.

Link’s Awakening

Aside from it being perhaps the best top-down 2D adventure in The Legend of Zelda, Link’s Awakening is important, but only the 2019 remake. It’s the first game Nintendo did in the art style that is now being used for Echoes of Wisdom. If you’re not an Animal Crossing: New Horizons player, then it might be an unfamiliar one. This game, while simultaneously being a classic game to play, will help you adapt to what is admittedly a steep departure for the Zelda franchise.

A Link to the Past

Once again, A Link to the Past has a claim to being the best 2D top-down TLOZ game, which is a good reason to play it. However, it could be the most important one to revisit. Based on the trailer and the marketing for the new game, Echoes of Wisdom seems to be a similar version of Hyrule to the one in A Link to the Past. The storyline is not totally clear right now, but it may be a good idea to refresh oneself on what happened in A Link to the Past so that nothing is confusing like the timeline has been.

Conclusion

No excuses are needed to play old The Legend of Zelda games, but Echoes of Wisdom‘s release is one. These three games will be a fun revisit, but they will also undoubtedly improve the experience on September 27 when the newest game in this long-running franchise is out. In the 17 days you’re forced to wait, you could have a lot of fun adventuring around different versions of Hyrule.
