What Zenless Zone Zero is All About!

Zenless Zone Zero

Zenless Zone Zero (ZZZ) is a new IP from miHoyo, or Hoyoverse, as they are becoming bigger and bigger within their own market. You might be used to them from Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail.

It’s an Action-RPG, Adventure, Fighting game with Gatcha elements. It’s not PvP-oriented like fighting games are nowadays, you fight simulated battles and run commissions where you fight AI and harder foes to earn rewards. Let’s take a quick dive into ZZZ and get an idea of what is in store.

Who or What is Zenless Zone Zero?

As mentioned above, Zenless Zone Zero is an Action-RPG, Adventure, Fighting Game. You can choose from one of two characters, Wise or Bella, a brother and sister hacker pair, respectively. They run a Video Rental Store as two managers but they are mainly known as Patheon as they work as Proxies. Proxies run commissions for teams in and out of the Hollows as you uncover New Eridu’s mystery and how the Hollows came to be.

You will be solving puzzles as their handler, if you aren’t solving puzzles you will help them (control them) in battle. In the Hollow area, you will fight monstrous beings that range from low fodder to big and dangerous bosses, trying to keep the Hollow area from consuming everything around it.

The Hollows area is a devastated part of civilization where Humans and the Thirens returned from. In the Hollows, the gameplay will be split into two kinds of modes; TV mode and Combat Mode. The TV mode will have you move around on, you guessed it, TV screens as you solve puzzles and encounter combats. As you enter combat, you will start to play as your agents in your team. The fighting is fluid with combos and specials being able to be triggered when you need the extra boost. By combining Agents you will gain an advantage in battles by learning their movesets and mixing them with each other allowing for better bursts of damage and combos.

You will even have Bangboos, little rabbit/bear androids that will assist you with additional stuff. There is a fruitful cast of agents, ranging from maids/butlers to actual agents.  There a already a few agents coming out that you can mix and match to create satisfying combos and even ending screens when you deal the final blow for the Wipeout.

As you collect agents you will be able to level them up with materials and put W-Engines and Drive Discs to enhance them to their maximum potential. The Drive Discs will be items that you can equip that will have stats that are random, and they can enhance your agents. The Engines will give agents a flat boost to stats that will even give them additional effects depending on the Engine. All the Agents have a Signature Engine that will give their respective hosts a unique glow on their body to give an extra flair.

There are 2 ranks of Agents, S, and A. With S being the best of the best. It’s the same with Engines, There will be S and A ranks. Of course, the S ranks will be the most sought-after Agents but don’t let that fool you, even the A ranks can be the run with the best in Zenless Zone Zero.

If you aren’t running commissions, you can always grind for materials with the energy in the game, with a current max of 240 energy you can use that to farm up the materials needed to level up your agents. OR if you want to have some fun, you can go to Asha’s Arcade and play some of the Arcade games. Sometimes there will be events where you play against other people or with friends!

Gatcha System in Zenless Zone Zero

One of the main draw points of Zenless Zone Zero is its Gatcha, where you will get and “recruit” agents to use and play with. You can use three different premium currencies that are known as Tapes; Master and Encrypted Master. The Master tape will allow you to pull from the Stable Channel, to pull S-Rank Agents and S-rank Engines.

This channel will offer some of the more basic S-rank Agents and Engines in the loot pool. So fingers crossed when you pull here, because even if you want an Engine or an Agent you could get unlucky and get the one you don’t want. The third currency will be Polychromes, the Polychrome can be saved up to be turned or used as Tapes for the banner, on a scale from 160(Polychromes):1(Tape.)

That being said the Exclusive Channel is where the more… exclusive agents will be, like in the image above, Jane Doe will be the one in the banner, currently. That would mean she has a higher drop rate from a .6% to a 1.6%.

However, there is an interesting mechanic that is now being shown, after 90 searches you will be guaranteed an S-rank, this will let you always nab an S-rank agent, in the Exclusive channel the S-rank will have a 50/50 chance that you will get the Agent on the banner (here being Jane Doe) OR a different S-rank, if you are unlucky to lose the 50/50 the next S-rank to show up, will be a guaranteed Agent on the banner.

Bangboos will also be drawn from their own banner with their own pity and currency, but you can’t pay for this one. However they allow you to select the one you want, so feel free to pick one that will help you and go for it!

It’s a good mechanic but regardless you will still be relying on RNG. You can get Polychromes by completing in-game missions and events so it’s not like you will ever be out, if you can save up you can save up a lot for the character you want later down the line in Zenless Zone Zero, Oh and let me mention, pity carries! So say you only have 10 pulls left and you haven’t gotten a Srank? well if you decide to save up, you can use that in the next banner you want to pull and grab them! (hopefully)

Conclusion

Let it be said every game has its faults, and this game being a cash-grab Gatch doesn’t help it. BUT I enjoy this game and what they have done with it and it makes me excited to see more, even with all the waifus coming in and out which only makes me want more. It’s a vibrant game with satisfying combinations and teamwork going forward, if you are new to Zenless Zone Zero be sure to check out my builds here so you can get the most out of your agents and return to us to stay covered on all things Zenless Zone Zero.
