What’s Next After 2024’s Amazing Shadow of the Erdtree

FromSoftware has released some amazing games from original Demon Souls to the latest Shadow of the Erdtree DLC for Elden Ring. These games invented the Soulslike genre and have been extremely popular throughout the years thanks to the challenge of the present. Elden Ring and its DLC broke all records and fans believe that FromSoftware is at its peak performance. Fans are now also left wondering what the future holds for Soulsborne games. This article will go over all the possible routes that the studio can take.

Return of Bloodborne

The Gothic Victorian FromSoftware masterpiece was released in 2015 and has remained to this day a PlayStation 4 exclusive. It is a beloved game and some fans consider it to be the best of the genre. Over the years, fans have been begging for a Remastered version of the game as well as a PC port. With an official PlayStation account also teasing Bloodborne, the possibility that the next project of the studio is Bloodborne remastered is extremely high. State of the Play later this year should confirm whether fans are returning to the streets of Yharnam or not.

Sekiro was a completely different direction from the Soulsborne genre yet it became the most popular game of 2019. With a unique focus on Sword duels, parrying, and deflections; Players are hopeful for another Sekiro game. A sequel is also possible considering that one of the endings of the game allows the protagonist to travel to the west where the sequel can take place.

Is Dark Souls Over?

Dark Souls trilogy is one of the most influential trilogies in gaming history. It crafted a mysterious, dark, and deep story that spanned over three games. Dark Souls 3 was a masterpiece and had some of the best bosses ever made. The ending of the trilogy was also on a high note so fans are wondering if Dark Souls 4 is a possibility. Considering that Elden Ring is now the golden goose of FromSoftware, it is unlikely that players will receive news about Dark Souls anytime soon.

Elden Ring Sequel

Elden Ring broke all records as it effectively took all the pieces of what made Soulsborne games special and combined them it one. Along with the fact that the open world is extremely immersive and well-designed, Elden Ring is one of the best games ever made. Shadow of the Erdtree also performed exceptionally well. It is fair to think that FromSoftware will take advantage of this fame and create a sequel or potentially a trilogy.

However, in a recent interview, Hidetaka Miyazaki, president of FromSoftware stated that currently there are no plans for another Elden Ring DLC or sequel. He also added that they are not opposed to the idea and may look at it in the future. Considering that Elden Ring 2 has not been in development yet, it is most likely that it will not be the next FromSoftware project.

A New IP

FromSoftware is collaborating with a lot of different game studios and has been known to be working on various projects at once. There have also been rumors about brand-new IPs in development at the studio. So, the next project after Shadow of the Erdtree might be a new ambitious project. Whether it is this or the return of Bloodborne, fans will likely have to wait till the end of the year to get official confirmation.
