Why Red Dead 2 Shouldn’t Be the End

Red Dead

Red Dead Redemption 2 is not only one of the best games in the Rockstar library but is often touted as one of the greatest accomplishments in video game history. Setting a new standard for open-world games with its richly detailed world, complex characters, and intricate narrative, it has not truly left any stone unturned. But just as much as Red Dead Redemption 2 is praised, many fans and critics alike think this should never be the end of the series. That would leave the Red Dead franchise with deep reserves of potential yet untapped, with a new installment way out in front to continue charming audiences in a manner that few other games have managed to pull off.

Expanding Legacy of the Wild West

Red Dead Redemption 2 launched players into an enormous, dynamic representation of the American frontier displaying the brutal reality of life in late 19th-century America. From the beautiful mountains of the Grizzlies to the swamps of Lemoyne, this world feels alive, immersive, and almost rich in history. Large-scale though it was, there’s still more to the Wild West that may be looked upon.

Another installment in the Red Dead series could take that narrative even further. Perhaps it’s about a time after the events of Red Dead Redemption when the Old West is declining little by little. The turn of the century brought massive changes to American society, including industrialization, the rise of modern cities, and the decline of the cowboy way of life. A game set in this period could draw on the tension of old and new worlds and offer a fresh perspective on these now all-too-familiar characters.

Unfinished Business

While Red Dead Redemption 2 and its predecessor have tied up much of those story threads, there are simply so many that have been left for a future game. Particularly, many fans have taken to the side of characters like Sadie Adler and Charles Smith, whose fates beyond the events of Red Dead Redemption are still left largely up in the air.

A new game might further delve into their stories, giving them closure or even casting them on new journeys. Sadie’s path, for one, would be greatly compelling in narrative as she carves a life in a world rapidly changing. Charles even more, with his mix of Native American and African-American heritage, could provide a very unique lens through which to explore the complexities of race and identity in early 20th-century America.

It would also be excellent to go back into John Marston’s early years or even his son’s, Jack Marston, post-Red Dead Redemption events. Jack is an interesting character to follow because he struggles beneath the weight of his family’s name, and works hard to create a name for himself in a world likely without room for him.

Technical Advancements

The game industry has, in many ways, come quite a long way since the release of Red Dead Redemption 2 from a technical standpoint: new gaming consoles, advanced AI physics, and advanced graphics; surely, Rockstar will be at an advantage of crafting an even superior world once there is going to be a sequel for Red Dead. Just think of much greater complexities in weather systems, better NPC behavior, and a world that acts even more dynamically to the player.

Besides, players’ expectations have also changed, and a new Red Dead game would be expected to deliver on them. Where Red Dead Redemption 2 was undoubtedly a runaway success, it also came under fire for a pace that could sometimes be a little slow and mission structures that were arguably too restrictive. A new game might take such criticisms on board to offer something rather more flexible and player-driven, without sacrificing any of the rich storytelling and minutiae for which the series has become renowned.

Cultural Impact

I don’t think one could overestimate the cultural resonance that the Red Dead series has engendered. The games have inspired countless debates, critiques, and even scholarly inquiry into their meaning. The world of Red Dead has become a common reference that many movies and TV shows draw upon. With all that said, letting Red Dead Redemption 2 be the final game of the series will mean Rockstar performing a huge disservice to their fans and at large to the culture in general.

With such a dedicated community continuing to find ways to interact with their games well after their original publication, it almost goes without saying. Be it through fan art, modifications, or discussion boards, the Red Dead community is very much alive and well. Rockstar has also always seemed willing to listen to the requests of its fans, so it goes without question that a new game in the series would be met with immense excitement and anticipation.

A Chance to Innovate and Evolve a new Red Dead game would allow Rockstar to create something special in the series in new and exciting ways. The company has a track record of pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in gaming, and a new Red Dead title could redefine the genre once again.

For instance, new gameplay could be provided to explain topic matters only lightly touched upon in the previous entries, such as the relationship between people and nature, the influence of modernization in rural settings, and so on. For example, they could add new gameplay features, deeper survival mechanics, or even an entirely stronger multiplayer component on top of what’s already available with Red Dead Online.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Red Dead Redemption 2 is not, and should not be, the finale of the Red Dead series. The franchise has too much unrealized potential, adored characters, and meaning to be so easily swept away into the wind. Provided that it is done right, a new Red Dead game could keep pushing gamers’ interest, expand on what is in the Wild West, and set another benchmark for open-world gameplay. The series could go in many ways, and fans will be salivating just like critics to see which direction Rockstar goes next.
