Why Was The Console War Good For Gaming? | May 20, 2024

For years there has been a ton of debate on which console was the best out. Gamers have their preference between the two consoles, either the PlayStation or the Xbox gaming consoles. Anyone can pick whichever they want, and still to this day it goes on. Just not as prevalent since the personal computer hit the surface. There are reasons for why the console war was good for gaming.

As things have evolved in the gaming industry, the war has slowed down. Here is some information on why the console wars gave a positive upside for those who enjoy video games around the world.

Console War In Gaming?

Milano Games Week 2023

As kids, we all would have our friends over to play games with us. Though our buddies may have had a different gaming system, they had to play whatever we had at our house. It always involved needing two controllers to play with one another.

Years later, multiplayer around the world became a trend. But, we would often get into arguments about which system was better. We all have our own opinions. Xbox came out with Live which let gamers play with others next door or out of state. Of course, we would have to pay for memberships for this to happen.

Later, PlayStation did the same thing. One of the biggest differences is that their system released games that Xbox would not. Games like Uncharted or MLB The Show were popular for Sony users. Fans of the opposite console always wished that certain titles would be released for Microsoft.

Well three years ago, MLB The Show did end up on the Xbox console, though still sponsored by Sony as the original creator. Gamers often would switch their gaming systems just to play titles that they could not, more so on Sony-related games. As we have advanced in time, no one has to switch over as much now.

Cross-Platform Gameplay

The console wars were good for gaming because everyone had their take on what they liked. In today’s generation, that still exists, but cross-platform is now available. So, both system players can join each other in different games. It does not matter what the game or title is in some cases. But not everything can be cross-played yet.

Sports games or RPGs such as Call of Duty or Madden can be combined into a multiplayer contest or map. Also, there is no time limit in cross-play gaming or features. Each console has its uniqueness with graphics or development. That is another reason why there has always been a console war or debate throughout the years.

PC Or Mobile Gaming

Consoles are not known as big-time gaming systems anymore. Personal computers are the new thing nowadays. Many critics or people believe that the wars are over because PC games are outdoing the old-school console titles. Fans love to build their own, and streaming has become a national commodity in the new era. It is not so much that people even argue about consoles because many no longer buy them.

The use of cell phones among young gamers is more prevalent in society. This is for those who would have a difficult time affording a gaming console or PC. All that kids do is keep a phone in hand, so they decide to play Call of Duty mobile or any other game on their electronic devices.

Soon there will be talk about which is more fun between mobile or a personal computer as gaming consoles are still coming out but are getting old to users after so many years. With these different types of gaming alternatives, the console war was without a doubt good for gaming! There are more options as time has gone on.

Do consoles still get played? Yes. But the question is, for how much longer will they be sold in stores or online for gamers to purchase?
