Wild Rift Gets Exciting Patch in October

Riot Games is preparing for the release of the year’s final patch for League of Legends: Wild Rift on October 16, promising fans a number of in-game events to celebrate.

Wild Rift Gets Arcane Tie-Ins

The Netflix animated League of Legends series Arcane will release its final season in November and Wild Rift players will get to dive into the growing friendship of Heimerdinger and Ekko in an exclusive in-game narrative event as part of the 5.3 patch.

Fans of the animated series will remember Ambessa, the feared Noxian warlord and the mother of Mel Medarda, who played a major role in the first season. Now, she joins Wild Rift as a playable champion, bringing her battle prowess and knowledge of war to the Rift. According to a release from Riot Games, she is a ruthless close-quarters fighter with the capability of devastating her foes with her agile and lethal combos Finally, in the last phase of the patch, players can look forward to a new set of Arcane skins.

New Champions Join the Fight

Ambessa, the Matriarch of War, isn’t the only new face coming in the Wild Rift 5.3 patch. She will be joined by the Reverend Inventor and an as-yet unnamed third champion. Described by Riot Games as “a brilliant yet eccentric yordle scientist,” Heimerdinger, also known as the Revered Inventor, is said to be one of the most innovative minds Piltover has ever seen. As a playable champion, he excels at controlling objectives and zones through the strategic use of his innovative arsenal of Hextech weaponry.

Rather than dropping all of its new content at once, the Wild Rift patch will evolve dynamically through different acts. When the patch begins, the third champion is in a scientific stasis, but will be awakened when the time is right.

Old Champions Get an Upgrade

In addition to the new champions, the latest Wild Rift patch also continues Riot Games’ tradition of updating existing heroes. This time it’s Singed and Warwick that get reworked.

Singed, the Mad Chemist, is being changed to have more combat power. He will now have the ability to bond with allies, giving them new buffs. Warwick, the Uncaged Wrath of Zaun, has been upgraded with an increase to his Blood Hunt range and an update to his ultimate that will give more precisions to his targeting.

Wild Rift Events Planned

A trio of special events are planned during the roll-out of the latest patch. First will be the Anniversary Event which will see all players get a special edition bee skin.

With a combination of different immersive stories and mini-games, the Firelights Reignite event will let players explore iconic locations, including Benzo’s shop and the Firelights’ Hideout. When the Black Friday Madness event kicks off, players can take advantage of massive skin bargains in the store. Riot Games also promises players plenty of opportunities to stock up on Wild Cores again

Gameplay Improvements

While previous patches looked at the early laning phase and late-game team coordination, the upcoming patch shifts its focus to the super late game. Slaying the Hex Elder Dragon will give successful teams the Hextech-infused Aspect of the Dragon. As a result their attacks and abilities with a lightning arc effect get a buff that bounces to up to three targets in addition to the true damage and low-health executes. The Rift Scuttler is also getting a tech upgrade, with different effects depending on whether she is near the Dragon or Baron lane.

The game’s vision system is also slated for improvements. Specifically, Riot Games is introducing changes to give the support role better ways to control vision. In addition, new visual and audio alerts will notify players when an enemy is seen by a ward.

New Game Mode Added

In Showdown, a brand-new game mode added with the patch, six game-changing legendary items will be added to amp up combat. Throughout the match, players will naturally collect item fragments by participating in team fights and completing objectives.

After gathering enough fragments, players can head to the shop to build these Piltover and Zaun-inspired legendary items, such as Shimmer for assassins and Jinx’s Pow-Pow & Fishbones for marksmen, to vastly enhance their combat power.
