Wonder Woman Game Canceled By Warner Bros.

Wonder Woman game canceled

Wonder Woman is one of the most iconic heroes in DC Comics. Her popularity soared when the 2017 movie was released, which was met with both critical and public acclaim. Shortly after, Monolith Productions was tasked to build a video game based on the character. Many fans were excited as the Batman: Arkham series was one of the most beloved trilogies of the past decade. However, reports started to trickle out early this year that the game was in jeopardy of being canceled. Those rumors turned out to be true as Warner Bros. has officially canceled the Wonder Woman game.

Jason Schreier of Bloomburg was the first to break the news. The cancellation of the Wonder Woman game also comes with the closing of three studios, including Monolith Productions. A game based on The Flash was already canned after a subpar movie performance, and this one is the latest casualty of the lukewarm response to WB Games’ latest video games. MultiVersus canceled their support for the game after five seasons, and Suicide Squad Kills The Justice League was a flop compared to expectations. Schreier posted on Bluesky the breaking news.

“We have had to make some very difficult decisions to structure our development studios and investments around building the best games possible with our key franchises -– Harry Potter, Mortal Kombat, DC and Game of Thrones. After careful consideration, we are closing three of our development studios – Monolith Productions, Player First Games and Warner Bros. Games San Diego. This is a strategic change in direction and not a reflection of these teams or the talent that consists within them.

The development of Monolith’s Wonder Woman videogame will not move forward. Our hope was to give players and fans the highest quality experience possible for the iconic character, and unfortunately this is no longer possible within our strategic priorities. This is another tough decision, as we recognize Monolith’s storied history of delivering epic fan experiences through amazing games.

We greatly admire the passion of the three teams and thank every employee for their contributions. As difficult as today is, we remain focused on and excited about getting back to producing high-quality games for our passionate fans and developed by our world class studios and getting our Games business back to profitability and growth in 2025 and beyond.”

What’s Next?

What is next for WB Games after canceling the Wonder Woman game? They have so many iconic franchises that shutting the division completely would not be smart. However, it is clear there needs to be some major changes. There has been some positive news in the past few weeks. Rocksteady is working on a new single-player Batman game, though it is years from seeing shelves. James Gunn announced yesterday that he would be assisting in the early stages of tie-in video games for the upcoming movies in the DCU.

The announcement also comes with some ideas for future games. Harry Potter and Game of Thrones are some of the biggest franchises in pop culture. Hogwarts Legacy took the world by storm last year and is still one of the most played games in 2025. There seemed to be too many irons in the fire, and the company needed to consolidate and reset.

Final Thoughts

It is disappointing to hear that the Wonder Woman game has been canceled. She has some great storylines and abilities that could have been showcased in a video game. The hope is Warner Bros. can regroup and, in the next decade, put out many quality games based on our favorite characters.
