3 Worst Map Exclusive Wonder Weapons in Call of Duty Zombies

Call of Duty Zombies has an entire armory of wonder weapons introduced throughout the years since Call of Duty: World at War. Some are fit for the Hall of Fame, and others are fit to go into the dumpster, never to be used again. Here’s the worst of the worst and why they just don’t stack up against the competition in CoD games.

Winter’s Howl

The Winter’s Howl, this wonder weapon had such a cool concept and backstory. An American-made wonder weapon reversibly engineered from stolen German technology made from Element 115. However, in action, it’s anything but awesome. It’s a semi-auto pistol that fires a blast of cold winds that can instantly freeze zombies to death and severely slow down zombies affected by the shots. It sounds great on paper, a weapon that can hit many enemies simultaneously. This is excellent for crowd control. However, its downsides never make it worth keeping in the player’s arsenal. The Winter’s Howl’s overall damage and ammo capacity are abysmal, even when pack-a-punched, there’s next to no improvement in its performance.

This wonder weapon quickly becomes outperformed by the Ray Gun in higher rounds, it can even be outperformed by some normal weapons. In Classified, the Winter’s Howl sees only slight improvement over its Black Ops 1 counterpart, but it’s still unreliable in the long run in a Zombies match. It can become a great wonder weapon by improving the damage and ammo capacity.

Magnetron

The Magnetron is a microwave-powered wonder weapon featured in the Advanced Warfare Zombies map: Infection. The concept of this wonder weapon goes as follows: it utilizes microwave radiation, weaponizes it, and focuses it to target specific individuals, essentially burning them from the inside out. It’s also a cool weapon in concept, but in execution, it leaves much to be desired. The overall damage, while higher than most weapons, is nullified by its excruciating long TTK.

Its ammo capacity is limited by the power supply of the weapon, which in itself is not a dealbreaker, however, its other agonizing flaw is the heat sync feature. The gun can overheat quickly and if it overheats, the heat sync must be replaced. This is already bad enough, but paired with its limited ammo capacity is a recipe for a boring weapon. The EM1, while also limited by its power capacity, never overheats, unlike its multiplayer counterpart, making it more reliable than the Magnetron. Upgrading the Magnetron doesn’t do it any justice as it is more of a waste of points and should only be used for easter egg runs on the map.

The Jet Gun

The Jet Gun is, by far one of the most disappointing wonder weapons to date. It had so much potential to be amazing but, was crippled by its limitations for “balance”. First of all, the player can only build the weapon by finding parts scattered throughout the entirety of TranZit. The map was already horribly designed as it is but the inclusion of the fog makes it nearly impossible to effectively traverse the map. All of the parts are hidden in areas that force players to move through the fog-covered areas. On top of only being able to carry one part at a time, it makes for a horrible back-and-forth fetch quest.

Once the player does manage to obtain all the parts necessary, The Jet Gun can be crafted and used immediately, it’s initial performance is a trojan horse, seemingly being great for its infinite damage and fast TTK. However, its massive downsides become apparent quickly. The Jet Gun requires a significant charge-up before it can effectively kill zombies, on top of that, it has a pressure meter that can fill up fast while the charge-up is occurring.

The player can stop using The Jet Gun to relieve the pressure build-up, however, the rate it takes to relieve the pressure is EXTREMELY SLOW. If the pressure build-up becomes too much, The Jet Gun can completely break and fall apart, forcing the player to rebuild the gun all over again. The worst part, this weapon can’t be pack-a-punched or upgraded at all, making it an absolute waste of time. The player would be better off with the Ray Gun. Hopefully, Treyarch will do The Jet Gun justice by giving it the much-needed buff it deserves in Liberty Falls.

Departing Thoughts

It’s a good thing that these weapons exist because they are a reminder of what not to do when designing a wonder weapon. These are just some of the worst wonder weapons throughout the series. Each new wonder weapon can make or break the experience for the player when it comes to a new maps or new Zombies experience. When it comes to weapon design, these weapons have to stick out more than the rest, some are more iconic than others, but all leave a mark, for better or for worse.
