XDefiant’s 3rd and Last Season Officially Begins

XDefiant Season 3

The third and final season of XDefiant has arrived with a bittersweet bang. Season 3 is called Assassins, and it has brought loads of new content to players, making it a spectacular farewell. The game is set to shut down on June 3, 2025, which comes to the dismay of all the developers and the dedicated players who love the game. Despite the clear sadness of the situation, Season 3 still packs a punch. Along with fixes, it’s brought an abundance of new content to the game, including things that were meant to be in future seasons.

New Factions

Season 3 brings three new factions to XDefiant. Each of them has their own unique lore and arsenal of weaponry that can be used to dominate the competition. Thankfully, players have plenty of time to explore all that they have to offer. Sadly, this is due to the fact that no more new factions will be brought to the game in future seasons.

Assassins

Just as the name suggests, this faction is tied in with Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed series. Those in this faction rely on stealth, intense combat training, unconventional weaponry, and a sixth sense to take down their enemies. This, of course, includes the Templars. Assassins are equipped with their signature Hidden Blade, a small but powerful weapon. It also so happens to result in a one-hit melee elimination for those unlucky people who fall victim to the Assassins.

Wolves

Wolves are former members of special forces who have gone rogue. They use Skell Tech drones for both offense and defense. They also use a special trait to keep them unseen, even from AI abilities and devices. They can also use the Legion drone, which acts as a homing proximity mine. The Stolas in their arsenal is practically a mobile turret, and their ultra, Drone Swarm, can be used to deny the enemy an entire area.

Blood Dragon

Blood Dragons are cyber commandos from a dark future that’s full of cyborgs, mutants, and the conflicts they can cause. They utilize cyberstrength, deadly shuriken, and shock punches to overpower their enemies. They can also use the deadly and devastating Killstar laser to deal some massive damage.

New Maps

Season 3 brings a wide variety of maps to XDefiant, giving players more diverse experiences when playing the game. The season was only meant to have four new maps. However, the developers believed the maps that were designed for future seasons were far too much fun not to be released. That means, in total, 13 new maps have been added to the game with the arrival of Season 3. This includes maps that may have been designed for the distant and never-to-be-seen Season 8.

S3 Maps

  • Mykonos (Arena): This map is based on a Greek island of the same name and is set in ancient times. Players can sprint by market stalls, seek higher ground on rooftops, and jump across boats for some high-risk flanking.
  • El Barrio (Arena)
  • Jorvik (Linear)
  • Animus Anomaly (Tactical): This is a new corridor-style map for Season 3. Players can explore and hunker down among the Viking castles on the map and use the waterways of ancient Greece for some tactical flanking. They can even go out with a boom, much like XDefiant is, in the new Defuse tactical version of the BOMB! game mode.

Future Maps

Arena

  • Carlyle’s Lab
  • Enchanted Forest
  • Killstar Temple
  • Razia’s Realm
  • Skell City
  • West End

Linear

  • Esperanza
  • Himalaya

Additions and Anguish

Along with new factions and maps, Season 3 of XDefiant brings new game modes, weapons, attachments, and much more. All the new additions and fixes can be found in the official patch notes for the game or by watching the official overview video for Season 3. This season also debuted the Top 500 Leaderboard in the game. It does exactly what the name implies, showcasing the top 500 players around the world as they progress throughout the season. It was meant to be used for future seasons, but that is no longer in the cards for XDefiant.

All the new additions this season have been praised by the dedicated players who have enjoyed the game since its launch. In fact, Season 3 is apparently so good that players are once again seeking help to keep XDefiant alive beyond June 3, 2025. There is even a petition to save the game from its tragic fate. At the time this article was written, it had just over 5,000 signatures. It’s unclear if all the outcry will save the game, but it doesn’t look good for XDefiant at the moment. If the game does meet its end next year, that’s even more reason to make Season 3 one for the gaming history books.
