Developer Nihon Falcom has announced what appears to be an upgraded version of Ys Nordics, titled Ys X: Proud Nordics. Ys X: Nordics’ English version was released earlier this year for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC. Its Japanese version was released in September of last year. This title is set to be released in Japan in 2025, with no announcement yet of an English or worldwide version. With the announcement being made only in Japanese so far, details are fairly ambiguous.

What’s New

Ys X: Proud Nordics seems to be an improved version of the original game, with a new story as well as a brand new island to explore. The official announcement page, currently only available in Japanese, teases another Mana user that Adol and Karja meet. It also mentions a new Mana action, as well as new bosses and additional Mana Ride races. The new island, called Oland Island, according to Falcom’s announcement, is either in the northern section of Obelia Gulf or entirely north of the gulf. It’s mentioned to have many ruins for Adol and Karja to explore, bringing to mind the story of Lacrimosa of Dana.

What We Don’t Know Yet

With this announcement coming so recently, a lot of information is still yet to come. For instance, Falcom has yet to announce which platforms Ys X Proud Nordics will be available on. However, the title will likely be released on the same platforms as the original version: Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC. Another unknown detail is whether owners of Nordics will have to purchase Ys X: Proud Nordics. While an English version of the game has yet to be announced, it’s likely that one will be announced after the Japanese release of the title.

Final Thoughts

It’s very exciting to hear about what seems to be an enhanced version of Nordics, which was already a great entry in the series. An enhanced version being announced while the original is still new is surprising, which has led some to make comparisons to Atlus. Falcom has released remasters and remakes, but these are usually for older titles rather than games that are barely over a year old. While the specifics are currently sparse, Total Apex will continue reporting on Ys X: Proud Nordics as new information is released.
