Since the very beginning with a New Hope, there has been a fan base to support it. It has one of the most enduring groups of dedicated lovers of film, merchandise, novels, and gaming the world has ever seen. These dedicated fans never tire of new opportunities to be Jedi, stormtroopers, space travelers, puzzle-solving droids, or take down impenetrable AT-ATs.

With this group of die-hard fans, you might think that there isn’t any game they wouldn’t love. But they have had their share of disappointments, mostly of the ones that got away. The cancellations of such titles as Star Wars: 1313 and the untitled Star Wars FPS Respawn unnamed title. Then there is also one of the most upsetting Battlefront III titles, which was almost completed before it was shut down.

Recent Titles

Gamers have enjoyed the release of some titles such as Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and Outlaws. Both titles had their growing pains of development with COVID-19, but managed to pull through, earning Disney over $2 billion in sales. The success of these recent titles has left fans wanting more, and developers are only too happy to oblige.

There are several Star Wars titles in the works that have been announced, such as Jedi 3, Zero Company, Eclipse, Knights of the Old Republic Remake, Amy Hennig’s Star Wars game, and a strategy game from Bit Reactor, Respawn, and Skydance New Media. You might be asking why and how there are so many in the works when we have had so few titles recently. One answer is that the recent powerhouse of gaming in Lucas games was Electronic Arts. EA has held exclusive license rights over Star Wars games until recently.

Zoo Tycoon and Metroidvania

The competition for making new titles for a galaxy, Far, Far Away, has grown, and the opportunities are out there. One fan had some ideas that have actually gotten some attention. On Reddit, a fan commented on the question posted, “Star Wars Hype- What Kind of Game Are We Still Missing?” The fan posted, “Star Wars Zoo Tycoon.” Since that post, it has caught the attention of others who have left additional comments, adding ideas of creatures, new additions, galactic conflict, and more.

Someone else posted a suggestion that someone is making a Metroidvania game. Metroidvania is a sub-genre of action-adventure games that features a nonlinear landscape that promotes exploration with guided progression. Some of its most popular titles of this style of game have been Metroid and Castlevania; fans will have a very similar style in Zero Company, which is set to be a tactical gameplay game; it’s close but not quite a Metroidvania.

Keep the Ball Rolling

Disney has had some recent successes in the space opera universe with the Force. Andor, which seemed to have a shaky start, has grown to be one of the most popular streaming titles out there. Now could be the perfect time to keep the momentum going. What do you think?
