Avoid Summer with these 5 Cool Video Games

HyperX

Summer is in full swing and it’s just as awful as it usually is, filled with sweat, mosquitoes, allergies, and just generally unpleasant. If you hate summer as much as I do, you’ll try to avoid going outside as much as possible. One of the ways I try to avoid going outside is by playing video games and I’m here to recommend some games that should help you to try and think cool this summer.

Forget About Summer In Skyrim

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim takes place in the eponymous region of Skyrim which itself is based on Scandinavia. If you’re looking for a gaming retreat this summer, Skyrim seems like a pretty good place to head to. Whiterun looks to be a location where it doesn’t get above 75 degrees Fahrenheit/23 degrees Celsius. Sometimes that can still be too warm which is why Winterhold also looks to be a pretty good place to visit. It already has winter which makes sense considering all the snow the area has when you explore there. On top of that, you can train to be a mage at the College of Winterhold and if it gets too cold, you could always visit the inn/tavern The Frozen Hearth which looks incredibly cozy.

Enjoy A Hellish Winter In Frostpunk

If instead you prefer hellish winters and have to make decisions like who lives and who dies first of all, what is wrong with you? Second of all, you might enjoy the video game Frostpunk, which was developed by 11 Bit Studios and released back in 2018. If that developer sounds familiar that’s because they also developed This War of Mine which is another depressing game. Frostpunk takes place in an area called New London where you take on the role of the town’s leader as you try and keep a giant generator up and running to ensure New London has heat during a long snowstorm.

Along the way, you’ll have to make decisions such as instituting child labor, whether to resort to cannibalism like the Donner Party and having a cemetery, or just disposing of corpses. If city-building games with awful choices are how you want to escape summer then Frostpunk is for you!

Escape Summer With Coffee In Coffee Talk

Maybe depressing games aren’t really your thing, maybe instead you just want to curl up to a cozy game to escape summer, and if so, then Coffee Talk might be more your speed. Coffee Talk takes place in the Fall, beginning in September and ending in the middle of October in a fantasy version of Seattle, Washington where elves, orcs, and other fantasy races live. In Coffee Talk, You play as a barista who serves coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and even warm milk to customers who stop in and also converse with them. Coffee Talk is easily one of my favorite cozy games out there and I highly recommend it to others wanting to escape summer for a while.

Avoid Summer While On An Oil Rig

If you want to say bon voyage to summer while also playing a horror game, Still Wakes the Deep may be the game for you. In Still Wakes the Deep, you play the role of Caz who is on the run from the police and takes work on an oil rig hoping things blow over. Unfortunately, while on the oil rig, an entity from beneath the ocean attacks it and it’s up to Caz to try and stop it. The game is set on the oil rig known as the Beira D off the coast of Scotland in December 1975, which means it’s easy enough to get into a chilly mindset and forget about summer.

Punch Summer In The Face As Batman

Batman: Arkham Origins is over a decade old now but it’s still a game I routinely play every couple of years, especially around the Holidays considering that’s when it takes place. A game that takes place around the Holidays seems like a pretty good game to try and keep cool in summer, especially when you get to play as a cool hero such as Batman. Even though it’s called Arkham Origins, it’s more of a year two for the Caped Crusader than it is as his origin story, which has him take on Black Mask, The Joker, The Penguin, and even Mr. Freeze in some post-game DLC.
