All About the Devastating Behemoth in Monster Hunter

Behemoth from Monster Hunter World

Monster Hunter is known for hardcore battles against giant creatures with attacks and abilities that can rival the most powerful supervillains. With that fact comes some monsters that are notorious for giving both new and experienced hunters a hard time. Behemoth in Monster Hunter World (MHW) is one of those monsters and has served as a wall for players since it came to the game. Here’s the origin of the infamous monster as well as a guide to experience and make it fall in a blaze of terrifying glory.

Where Behemoth Comes From

For those who are fans of the Final Fantasy games, the name Behemoth is certainly not unheard of. That’s where this monster got its start. People who have played Monster Hunter, especially World, know the series is no stranger to collaboration quests. From Sonic to The Witcher, mechanics, monsters, and armor sets from different worlds make their appearance. Obviously, Behemoth stems from one of those crossover quests. It’s the same collaboration that brought Cactuar into the game as a part of the endemic life that can be captured and kept as a pet.

The monster is no single foe. It’s a class of enemies that first appeared in Final Fantasy II and has remained a constant throughout the long-lasting series. Unlike MHW, several varieties of this monster have different elements, sizes, and stories. Behemoth was permanently added to MHW as a free DLC in the summer of 2018 and still gives players quite a different and difficult challenge if they choose to partake in its quests.

How to Unlock the Behemoth Quest

To first encounter this dangerous beast, players must be able to beat the main story first. Afterward, they will be able to speak with the Serious Handler and accept the quest titled “A Visitor From Another World.” After making the proper preparations, they will be transported to the Wildspire Waste where they will inevitably find the usually meek Kulu-Ya-Ku. Only, instead of digging up rocks, this one will have a giant Aetheryte crystal that it refuses to drop. This very crystal causes the monster chicken to be stronger and gradually grow larger as the fight progresses.

When the beefed-up bird is bested, they will experience a cut scene that transports them to the Elder’s Recess where they will encounter the big bad beast for the first time. After it’s defeated, players will be able to repeat the battle against it in a quest called “A Visitor From Eorzea.” A more powerful version of the monster is available in the quest “A Visitor From Eorzea (Extreme)” and is aptly referred to as Extreme Behemoth.

How to Defeat This Beast

The battle against this monster is notorious for being difficult and punishing. However, there are ways to make the fight a bit easier. Like with any monster, understanding Behemoth’s physiology and weaknesses is key. Players should target Behemoth’s head and tail since they are its weak points. Taking a weapon with an amount of good dragon element is a great idea for this battle since it’s the element that it’s weakest to. Its secondary weaknesses are water and ice.

As for items to bring along to the fight, healing items are an obvious choice. For those who take on this challenge with others, Lifepowder and Dust of Life are both crucial to helping teammates in dire need. It is also a good idea for players to bring the Vitality and Temporal Mantles to help them take some extra hits if they need to. Behemoth can inflict Bleeding, Fireblight, and Thunderblight. To help heal themselves from Fireblight and Thunderblight, players should bring along Nulberries unless their armor gives them max Blight Resistance. For Bleeding, Asura Jerky will immediately put a stop to it.

To help defend themselves even more, players should go into the battle with armor that has good resistance to fire and thunder. Those resistances can be boosted thanks to the help of Decorations. Specific Decorations can also boost a player’s general defense as well as base and critical attack damage. Doing more damage is of course key to ending the fight before Behemoth can end an unlucky hunter. However, it is still very possible to lose the battle even when taking the necessary steps to prepare. The only thing left to do then is try, try, and try again.
