Exploring the Full Dragon Age Inquisition Level Cap in 2024

The best moment of playing through an RPG must be the moment when a character levels up. You get to explore new abilities, access customizations, and just become more powerful. However, that improvement must have a limit to prevent players from destroying your game’s balance. This is commonly known as a level cap.

In Dragon Age Inquisition, each new level provides characters with access to a winding skill tree that determines the nature of their play style. As you grow, you’ll find yourself engaging with the game’s systems on a deeper and deeper level. How far can you go with your characters in this game? Let’s talk about the level cap in Dragon Age Inquisition.

The Joys of Growing Up

Characters in Dragon Age Inquisition belong to one of three classes and start, as you might expect, at level 1. Each class gets four base skill trees, and each character can get one of three specializations for an additional fifth skill tree. Each level grants you a single skill point, which is placed into a node of your choice.

Some of these abilities are active while others are passive, and some have secondary upgrades that can be unlocked by spending additional skill points. As such, each level greatly expands a character’s options for combat and makes them more useful. More powerful abilities are generally at the bottom of trees, which incentivizes focusing on a character’s specialties.

Maxing Yourself Out

In an unmodded experience, Dragon Age Inquisition caps out at level 27 for all of your characters. With shared EXP, characters should level together collectively, although occasional hiccups may result in slight moments of disparity. While the original release required substantial effort to reach the cap of 27, the addition of three DLC packages has since made this much easier.

A completionist will see their characters maxed out as they are working through the story’s conclusion in Trespasser. While 27 may seem low compared to other games, it is enough to allow characters to become shockingly powerful. With the right synergies between abilities and equipment, a variety of strategies becomes available.

Final Thoughts

Bioware focused on making every level count in Dragon Age Inquisition. Getting a new active ability feels great and allows you to do more in combat as you wait for cooldowns to end. Passives can transform how characters function and upgrading your abilities with specialized choice nodes lets you improve your favorite actions.

The emphasis in this game was on striking the balance between fast-paced action combat and slow strategic thinking. So long as you engaged with all of your characters and made complementary choices, the leveling process would gradually transform your party into a force to be reckoned with. Taking out High Dragons at max level will end up feeling like an accomplishment all its own.
