Horizon Zero Dawn Will Get PC And PS5 Remaster

horizon zero dawn

Horizon Zero Dawn was a PlayStation-exclusive title released in 2017. It has received a sequel, Horizon Forbbiden West, and a PC port, but it hasn’t yet been remastered. Some Sony Interactive games have received PS5 remasters, like The Last of Us Part I and Death Stranding. It’s rumored that Horizon Zero Dawn is next on that list. So far, an ESRB rating has somewhat confirmed this. Here’s what we know.

Horizon Zero Dawn follows our main protagonist, Aloy, as she grows up, being raised as an outcast from her tribe. The world of Horizon Zero Dawn blends more rural/prehistoric elements with futuristic ones. Yes, you’re fighting with spears, hunting, and living off the land, but you’re also fighting advanced animal-like machines. The game beautifully blends sci-fi, fantasy, and memorable and lovable characters.

The sequel, Horizon Forbidden West, was released only two years ago and did well as a successor. Now, Sony plans to release a remastered version. There has already been an update to the original version in 2021 that upgraded the game to the PS5’s graphical capabilities. In Sony’s other remakes, The Last of Us Part I and Death Stranding, there was more than just enhanced graphics; additional content was added. These games set a precedent for what a Horizon Zero Dawn remake could be like. Players could see a complete overhaul of the project, improving it in every way.

Recently, IGN reported that the Horizon Zero Dawn remaster had received an ESRB rating and a description of the game along with it. As of right now, the rating is gone, so it’s possible that making the rating public was a mistake. However, it does provide confirmation of a remaster/remake in the works.

PC Port

Horizon Zero Dawn was initially exclusive to PlayStation, as all Sony Interactive games are, but it got a PC port in August 2020. Now, many PlayStation games have been ported to PC and are available on Steam. Aside from Horizon Zero Dawn, this would include God of WarGod of War: RagnarokThe Last of Us Part I, and more. Earlier this year, Horizon Forbidden West was released on PC as well.

With this in mind, the remaster will also likely be available on PC. This is especially true considering that the versions of Death Stranding and The Last of Us on PC are remastered extensions. IGN reports that the ESRB rating indicates a PC launch as well.

Conclusion

Remasters do multiple things in the gaming community. They upgrade beloved games so that people can continue to play and enjoy them without compromising the graphics they’re used to. Remasters also port games over to newer systems, allowing people to hold onto them longer. Eventually, systems will stop being backward compatible. While the PS5 is backward compatible with the PS4, there is no guarantee that the PS6 will also support PS4 games. Eventually, we might have to let go of our favorite games, but for now, we can look forward to the Horizon Zero Dawn remaster.
